WP grenade

I hated the things, seemed I could never throw them far enough and always had to run about twenty feet the other direction. Not a nice way to die.

How about magnesium instead of willie peter? A toothpick thick strand of the stuff inserted into the base should leave a visible light as the bullet blazes its way downrange. I think Hornady did that with bullets they developed for trainers (to watch the trajectory of their trainee's bullets).

If you didn't live in California, I"d recommend that you buy some .22LR tracers and pull the bullets.
Maybe you could drill a hole in the rear of a projectile and insert a piece of cannon fuse.
Or pack in some crushed match head.

i could probably buy some next time i am at Cabelas then pull them. California laws are horrible. if you use them safely there is nothing dangerous about tracers. they they can be useful tools to help youngsters learn how to get lead on target. stupid politicians trying to "protect" us.

you know what i want to know, why are tracers so expensive? for a box of .22 LR tracers isn't it like $20 or so for 50? given the materials used it should not be so expensive to make. if i could buy some to try and make tracers out of i would still be a bit hesitant to pull the bullets. i mean, i would hope i wouldn't screw up the projectile.

I've seen tracer compound for sale at gun shows. It would be cheaper to make your own.
I guess the reason tracers are so expensive is because so few companies make them.

You couldn't pay me enough to mess with willie peter.
