Carbon Steel vs Stainless Steel

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the only real difference is that stainless, not surprisingly, is easier to clean and maintain. I wondered about this because Sig recently began making the legendary p210 in stainless and I wasn't sure why. To me the original in Nitron coated carbon steel just somehow seemed cooler and more authentic. Once it's produced in stainless, it's just another (albeit excellent) pistol.

They started doing the slides out of stainless. The frame is still carbon steel. I have an older Legend Target that's all carbon, thankfully.

Bc1023, I hope you're right. Unfortunately, the paragraph on the Sig website describing the P210 says one thing (stainless slide/carbon frame) while the PDF of the brochure for the P210 says something else (stainless slide AND frame).:banghead:

I'm not a big fan of stainless, especially for tight fitting guns. There's a reason why the most accurate 1911s are carbon steel.

Les Baer, for instance, won't even offer their best accuracy guarantee with a stainless gun.

I thinking a nice blued carbon steel gun looks a heck of a lot nicer as well.
bc1023,

Not meaning to second guess you, but then why does Les Baer use stainless barrel bushings? At least I have one on my 1.5 inch Concept IV. The frame and barrel are carbon and the thing is flat out the most accurate center fire semi auto I own.

Pic of the gun for fun. Excuse the color of the background. If you look closely you can see the bushing.

Baer doesn't guarantee the 1.5" on the stainless guns. The bushings are stainless, but never the slide or frame.
