what do you carry? I'm not looking for weight bullet type and so on, just what brand?

EDIT TO ADD: If I did not put your favorite ammo in the poll I am sorry, these were the ones I pulled out of memory. also, I carry Hornady

ALSO EDIT TO ADD: The two I was expecting to win, are in fact winning

Generally, I carry a simple JHP or SJHP load. Those in my Kel-Tec PF9 and Bersa Thunder .380 are made by Remington's UMC company. In my two four-inch revolvers (Taurus M66 and Ruger Police Service Six) are .38 Special loads by Remington, both SJHP in +P. In my Kel-Tec P32 are WWB JFN rounds. WWB rounds in that shape also fill my .38 snub revolvers.
All off these rounds are chosen largely due to price point and ready availability.

No particular brand. I carry whatever factory load looks good, but I buy very little factory ammo.
If I think my reloads will do the job better I carry them.
(No, I don't buy into the notion that somehow a "good shoot" becomes a "bad shoot" if a reload is used.)

Too bad you can only pick one, I use 2 loads because I carry 2 different guns.

Speer 135gr Short Barrel .38 Special +P
Remington FBI Load

I have several of the ones you list but just as often use my hand loads,as I have good loads developed for specific fire arms and trust them as well as any
store bought ammo.

I voted "other", because:

In .22 WMR, I carry CCI Maxi-Mag +V
In .380, I carry Remington UMC
In 9mm, for compacts, I carry Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel
In 9mm, for full-size, I carry Remington Golden Saber
In .38 Special +P, I carry Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel
In .357, I carry Buffalo Bore
In .40, I carry Hornady T.A.P.
In .45, I carry Hornady T.A.P.

So that is 8 different loads in 7 different calibers from 5 different ammo manufacturers for various carry and home defense guns.

You should add a "2 or more of the above" option to the poll...

I use Speer, Hornady, Federal, Winchester, Fiocchi, PPU, and Silver Bear in various calibers in various guns ... and that list may not be all inclusive. Everything seems to run Gold Dots happily, though, at least in anything that I can find a reasonably priced GDHP in.

And I generally have my carry gun loaded with ammo "X", and a reload of ammo "Y", just because I've considered that problems could be related to a batch/lot or the age of the ammo ... both "X" & "Y" would be high-quality loads suitable for defensive use, sometimes just a newer batch in the gun and an older batch of the same ammo in the reload, or vice-versa

Limiting yourself to only one load for carry/defense/whatever is sort of silly, anything you can pick up reliably in a non-chump-box* should be tested out and evaluated, keeping in mind that the difference between various quality expanding bullet designs is fairly minor compared to the necessity for reliability of the ammo/gun/magazine matchup. If you know your gun feeds and ejects Speer Gold Dots and Federal EFMJ - for example - stock both whenever you encounter them at a decent price. The same applies to any quality defensive load, really.

**"chump-box": (n) A box of ammunition of 25 or less rounds at a markup only someone who doesn't know better (or someone who doesn't test their ammo) would pay
**"non-chump-box: (n) the same ammunition packaged in more reasonable sizes at more reasonable prices. Sometimes marked with "LE sales" nonsense, a slightly different part#, or similar.

Reloads.

Barnes XPB's in my 357's (125grn and 140 grn)

Gold Dots in my .40 (reloads 155grn)

230grn Remington hp's (reloads not Golden Sabre) in my 45.

Winchester Ranger SXT's

I still carry the ammo issued to my agency, even though I am retired.

I dont ever have to explain why I chose that particular ammo since my agency did so and any D.A etc can ask them why.

I see it as a liability proof ammo choice.

In a nanny state that is a major concern.

remington, but for the life of me I don't know why. I have at least a 5% failure rate with them. Except for golden sabers which have been 100% reliable.
