Gold Dots

Because - when it absolutely positively needs to go BANG...

because they are worth it!

Wow! this is not an answer i ever thought i would see. I didn't know that wolf had jhp loads. But that is really cool that there are people out there that would trust there lives to them. I am a big wolf fan especially for 7.62x39 and .223, i want to checkout some of those 75gr multi-purpose loads from wolf. I think they would make perfect loads for about any situation i might run in to!

I get it from Cabelas, it's cheap and has a much lower FTF rate (0, actually) than WWB, at least in my experience. The only other Wolf Gold I've tried is 147 grain 9MM JHPs, which don't feed in my P11. I have 200 of them in a range box, sooner or later I'll get a pistol that will feed them.

First post here on the forum, so I'm excited I found this site!

For my H/K USP Compact, 165gr Gold Dot, the Kimber 1911 gets 230gr Gold Dot. My wife carries the 115gr GD in her compact Beretta M92, and I use the same in my full-size M92. On the revolver side, I'll use the Rem 125gr JHP for my GP-100.

I agree, use the factory stuff so when the bad guy's momma comes after you in a civil suit, you can say you use the factory stuff. I also have checked into what the local PD uses (Gold Dots) since if the local police carry it, then it's good enough for me.

On the other hand, after reading a very interesting article in the aftermath of Katrina, I now have "go-boxes" loaded up for each of my firearms. That way, I can grab 1-2 and have ammo set aside to go with it. These match the factory ballistics, or pretty close, and I've loaded up with either 165gr GD or Golden Saber for my .40s, the 230 GD/GS for the .45s, 115gr Rem JHP or Win Silvertips in the 9mm, and the Rem 125gr JHP for the .357. These will only be used in times of civil unrest, when there may not be many lawyers around. :)

WAS a big fan of Black Talons. But a paramedic buddy of mine gave me a new perspective on them. The sharp edges slice the rubber gloves the Surgeons use while trying to put the person back together. Making the risk of transmitting what ever the patient has to the Medical Professional.

I dont CCW but as for my H.D load it is actually 230 grain JHP Winchesters. I figure that should be enough to knock a man down. All these guys that talk about using 185 grain bullets for velocity got it all wrong I think in IMHO, in a H.D situation your probably only going to be shooting at a target 10 to 15 feet away. That being the case I want the biggest bullet I can launch at them, heck I would use a 12ga slug in that case but a shotgun just aint manuverable enough in the hallway. A big old heavy .45 will make a sufficient wound channel and thats what youre going for. Plus there is always the over penetration issue with high velocity loads. I had a box of Black Talons that got loaded into my mags at night but they were getting a little old for my taste so they found their way into some milk jugs full of ice awhile back ago :) , a test with the new Wally World JHP Winchesters produced the same results.

I have always regarde this as a myth spread by the media. I have read reports on Black Talons and not one case of this occuring has been reported.

I am in possession of only 1 gun right now; Smith & Wesson 642-2 (5-shot lightweight .38 spl snubby); my chosen SD load is Hornady XTP's (125 grains)

For what it's worth - -

.45 ACP --- Speer Gold Dot 230 gr. HP

9 mm ---- Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. HP

.38 Spl ---- 158 SWC HP. Remington for preference, but I also use some Winchester and Federal Nyclad.

I used to carry Federal HydraShok in .45 and 9mm but changed over when my agency -- local sheriff's office -- began issuing GDHP. The GD was perfectly acceptable to me and it was easiest to conform my personal purchase ammo to the issue stuff. I felt strongly enough about my preference for the 158 HP .38 spl load that I obtained clearence from the rangemaster and Chief Deputy to use private purchase ammo.

In truth, I would feel perfectly comfortable using Remington, Winchester, or Federal JHP ammo in my autoloaders.

Best
Johnny

My 357 Carry rounds are normally mixed to gether by this relatively unknown master of Brass and Lead who not only loads them but also casts the bullets. Better known as my own handloads of 165gr LSWCGC over either Lil'gun or 2400.

My 9mm for my 9/642 are either handloaded 125 gr berrys plated or factory 125gr Speer Gold dots.

I avoid Remington ammo like the plauge. No other brand has given me more duds than Remington, they are dirty as hell, and the accuracy seems to be lacking. that last part just might be my gun not liking it though.

Black hills 125gr +P' 38spl'd that use the fine
Speer GD bullet in my 642-2.

Black hills 115gr +P 9mm that also use's the
Speer GD bullet in my Mil-pro.

Win 145gr silvertip 357mag in my 65-3.

.40 S&W - Winchester SXTs and Remington Golden Sabers
.38 Special - 158 gr LSWCHP
.380 ACP - Remington Express FMJ
