First post here on the forum, so I'm excited I found this site!
For my H/K USP Compact, 165gr Gold Dot, the Kimber 1911 gets 230gr Gold Dot. My wife carries the 115gr GD in her compact Beretta M92, and I use the same in my full-size M92. On the revolver side, I'll use the Rem 125gr JHP for my GP-100.
I agree, use the factory stuff so when the bad guy's momma comes after you in a civil suit, you can say you use the factory stuff. I also have checked into what the local PD uses (Gold Dots) since if the local police carry it, then it's good enough for me.
On the other hand, after reading a very interesting article in the aftermath of Katrina, I now have "go-boxes" loaded up for each of my firearms. That way, I can grab 1-2 and have ammo set aside to go with it. These match the factory ballistics, or pretty close, and I've loaded up with either 165gr GD or Golden Saber for my .40s, the 230 GD/GS for the .45s, 115gr Rem JHP or Win Silvertips in the 9mm, and the Rem 125gr JHP for the .357. These will only be used in times of civil unrest, when there may not be many lawyers around.
