Carry in the Summer?

So I started carrying daily a few months ago (thank you bruin) and I have a kydex holster I really like. Normally I have been wearing a tucked in t-shirt or undershirt in-between me and the holster and a pullover or something on top. But the weather had gotten nice and it is time for shorts and t-shirts. Today I was wearing a pair of kaki shorts with my gun iwb and a t-shirt untucked over top but the holster and more importantly the grip of the gun rub against my skin.

So what do you all do for summer time carry?

IWB lightweight cover shirt, patterned. If I must tuck my shirt in such as at a formal event I will pocket holster a pocket gun. I may at some point find a way to perfect tucked carry for a more substantial pistol. But I don't care for it as the clips show and access is not as good.

Tucked in under shirt. Plain white tee or wife beater while carrying IWB. Or pocket carry.

If the weather is still cooler out in the evening I will go with an OWB with a Polo shirt and a lightweight jacket. Other than that I use both IWB or OWB holsters under a Polo. in the warmer months.
The holsters I have selected do a great job keeping the gun snug and close to my body.

I don't have a iwb holster, but I have a good low profile owb holster that I carry everyday, year round. I tend to wear a baggie hoodie or shirt and jacket in the winter and a baggie shirt in the summer. 5.11 and Carhartt both make shirts that are straight cut, not tapered or athletic, that make for good carry shirts.

T-shirt and shorts pretty much year round. Light weight fishing, Hawaiian print or Guayabera over. And honestly, open carry at times, particularly if I will be mostly in the car.

The largest CCW I carry is a Shield. I had to switch to a IWB holster with a leather back with a Kydex shell (Tommy Theis). It is very comfortable, and secure. In hot weather I switch to my LCP in a Theis IWB holster or a belly band. The belly band works with gym shorts and a tee shirt securely with no printing, just wear a tee shirt one size larger than normal.

I wear a wife beater under one of my normal tee's.

I cant stand the gun and holster against my bare skin, and the leather holsters just make that misery about 100 times worse.
Yeah that my issue. Although it's more the texturing on the grip than the holster. Someone else suggested a wife beater to me also I just hate the idea of wearing a wife beater... especially under a t-shirt.

Yeah my issue is not so much printing. with my body type and gun size/holster I can wear just about anything and not print. My issue is that when wearing iwb without any type of undershirt like I wear in the winter it rubs and chafes. Especially with the aggressive grip texturing.

Yeah open carry is not an option for me due to laws. Also I am wary about the hawaiian shirt method as there really isn't any official policy on incidental exposures here and I have no doubt the gun grabbers that run the place would have very little sympathy.

BTW I live in Washington DC

Wife beaters - perhaps better referred to as "A-shirts" - under Hawaiian shirts when I can afford to be relatively casual. Dressier occasions are managed with light silk or linen shirts with linen sportcoats - which do have the advantage of allowing OWB carry.

In my experience, brightly colored and patterned Hawaiian shirts offer surprisingly good concealment, in addition to making the wearer look like a harmless doofus. That's here in SoCal, though, where they are completely routine. In DC they might stand out...

Its always "summer" here.
My standard attire is cargo shorts and a lightweight patterned untucked shirt with a thin tank between me & gun.
It is not difficult to conceal a Glock 19 or 17 size pistol AIWB, dressed as pictured:

IWB with a nice leather holster that has the flap that sits in between the pistol and my skin. Same type holster 365 days a year shorts or jeans but always a belt. Tail out fishing shirts or hawaiian style shirts. Commander size 1911 or the 365XL comfortable even on 100 degree days.

I haven't carried a sidearm since I retired out of police work (1995) -but when I did, down here in the Miami area it was a Guayabara shirt or something similar - a size larger than normal (both for air circulation and concealment since you can add an armored vest if desired as well...), shorts and flip flops mostly. For dressier occasions (even court if allowed) the exact same setup - but with long pants, shoes, and an ankle holster..

I was never bothered by a handgun next to skin (grips only) - but for that vest a t-shirt was always a necessity... This was my routine for the 22 years I served (once I'd tried every other carry combination..). since there are so many different ways to carry a sidearm... I must also note that in my last ten years, fully blooded and much, much wiser about weapons... I only carried my duty auto pistol when off-duty (Beretta 92S, then a Sig Sauer P229 in 40 cal..).

If you ever really need a sidearm on your own off duty - carry more gun than needed.. If you can live with it, you'll be happier knowing you really do have the means to get down when necessary....

I wear wifebeaters or an undershirt. The only other options are rubber grip tape, or a Hogue type of rubber grip sleeve. I would simply go to Wal-Mart and spend $10 for a pack of undershirts, and call it a day.

You can see that I cutout some grip tape to size on my Springfield Hellcat. It's been on there for months no issues. Make that portion of the grip less rough.

The same way I carry most of the time. OWB cross draw. Covered with a Hawaiian shirt. Pretty much invisible.

Wear a short sleeve button down, untucked and unbuttoned . get the idea ? That's all you can do.
Carrying a gun is supposed to be comforting , it is very rarely comfortable . This is the way.

I am a firm believer in carrying every day, if not why have a CCL in the first place?

My strategy is to choose a gun that fits my wardrobe:

Rather than choose a wardrobe that fits my gun.

Unlike my friends that have CCL's and are stuck on carrying a compact to full sized gun I carry a gun every time I leave the house.
