That's a common issue almost everywhere. Lots of unclear and archaic knife law in many states.Yes, Ohio needs to modernize the knife laws just as they have done with the gun laws in recent years.
In AL the only law I'm aware of that specifically addresses knives is a prohibition on the concealed carry of a "Bowie knife". I've been told that this is a hold over from the days when many people actually dueled with Bowie knives (or at least the public and legislature thought they did). Unfortunately, the law does not define what a "Bowie knife" is, and there are cases where a kitchen knife was classified as a "Bowie knife" in court. It would be much clearer if they just changed "Bowie knife" to "any knife longer than X-inches" but its not really a priority for anyone in our government.
