Carry reasons?

There have been occasions in my life where I wish I had been armed. There was also an incident in my life where I WAS armed and that’s what saved my life.

For eight years I was the financial controller for the concessionaire at an NFL stadium. I was in charge of cash collection from over 150 points of sale during the game. At the end of the night we generally had about a couple of million dollars cash on hand. Even though I employed a small army of police officers, I still felt better with my Glock .40 on my ankle.

I carry because it’s my right to do so. I carry because I NEVER want to be caught unprepared again! I carry because it may mean the difference between living, and dying.

I carry for the same reason I have car insurance and a fire extinguisher. You won't need it, until you do. And then, it'll be the only thing that could save your bacon.

I carry because I felt naked until my state had the foresight to implement shall issue. I can't run from trouble with a handicapped wife.

There are still those in my state that would have us disarmed. It may not be high road, but tough, I pray for poetic justice in this matter.

I carry because I still can't read the future, and not having a gun when you need one means you die, or worse.

To be honest, I would carry if I could read the future.

Because I believe in self-reliance. Cops are great - I'm a big fan of cops. But as this is not (yet) a police state, they aren't everywhere. Therefor, ya gotta be able to hang on until the cavalry arrives.

Also, because I love my life, my wife, and my kids... And I want to be able to protect them should the need arise. I'm not too keen on trusting the welfare of my family to the whims of a violent criminal.

Answering in Future Tense

Why do (will) I carry?
  • Because I should.
  • Because everybody should.

Same question, two years down the line?
  • Habit.
  • Doesn't everyone?

I only owned .22lr rifles and handguns before I moved to Madison County N.C. Many of the "locals" do not like outsiders moving into the area I bought land in. Well........A local took offense that I had bought the land next to his and tried to make my life miserable. First he and his dogs attacked me on the State road in front of my property. Then he put a pipe bomb in my driveway. Then he started shooting his gun across the road as I passed his house in my car. I personally asked the local Sheriff to protect me from this "NUT". The Sheriff told me he could not protect me !!! He could only enforce the laws after they were broken. Since the "NUT" only attacked when I was alone I never had a witness to make a charge that would make a prosecution possible. Thats what made me buy my first self defense weapon. And I will be DAMNED if anyone trys to take it away from me!!!

There may come upon a time when I am forced to injure someone else, grievously, for the greater good of myself and mine, or even society as a whole.

I pray that day never comes, but if it does, when it does, boy am I gonna make it good.

Living in a dangerous area, having a dangerous job, well they're all good reasons but you don't NEED a reason. It's your RIGHT.

As me dear old dad would say, "like fish arguing about water"

I cannot help but feel that anyone who can be negotiated with was never a threat in the first place :fire:

Frances, Jean, Wilma. No electric, phones, or police. Looters in the area. Having to "forage" for gasoline and other supplies while carrying cash. They don't take credit cards when there's no electric. Afterwards I came to my senses. Won't leave myself and my family exposed like that again.

im really big into jeeps, and love wheeling in places there is no body around for miles.....well, ive heard that out west, where im going in a little over a year for a wheeling trip with some friends, there have been a few cases with fellow jeepers, where they were on some back trail, and were run off the road, and robbed by some hillbillies, or were at camp, and had some hillbillies spoil their fun, and take all their stuff...a couple of them had guns (the jeepers i mean) and the "thugs" ran away, and i really dont want to go out all that way, to have my camping gear, my 06 jeep rubicon, or anything else i have stolen...let alone, have my life put at risk....

even at a local wheeling place around here, there have been multiple things that have happened to people i know...its an off road park, a little over 700 acres, and you can camp there, well a few people in my jeep club have waken up at night to locals tearing thru their things outside their tent. and one of my friends friends, had a 1978 Jeep Cherokee at this place, and something broke on it all the way in the back of the park, a few miles from the entrance, and keep in mind, the park intelf is in the middle of nowhere anyways, and so they hopped in the other truck they had to run in somewhere and get a part for it.....well, they even took the wheel/tires off the jeep to keep some one from taking it, and they got back, and some one had put some new tires on it, and taken it...they even asked the people who work at the entrance, and they said they never saw it leave, so theres a way to get in there that the locals have found, to come in and take what they want..

and, also, it doesnt help that i have had 2 of my jeeps broken into and had over 1500 bucks worth of things stolen out of them each time...that stuff just ticks me off so much

i dont have my CCW permit yet, but i will fairly soon

I used to have a job that required me to be armed, ever since then I feel naked without my carry gun. When I was a child I had a blanket that I carried around and it made me feel safe and made me feel that I would be ok, now the gun makes me feel the same way...besides people would think I was REALLY weird if I still carried the blanket...

Why do I carry?

1. To protect my family
2. Because I can, because I can, because I can.....:neener: :D

my wife and i both carry. my reasons are,

1. i was raised in miami, and i wanted to live.
2. she has a psycopathic ex who has threatened her, me, and her daughter with all kinds of mayhem.

her reason is, see #2 above.

Cornered up by three guys while hiking. :uhoh: A couple came along and saved me from a "fate worse than death." Wanted to carry for a while, just never followed up. DH is ever so happy that I have seen the error of my ways. Your mindset also changes when you become a parent.

Emergency response gear.............

I've always felt it was prudent, like the other poster said, pretty much for the same reason you'd keep a fire extinguisher. I've felt a more immediate need since the Cincinnati riots of 2001.

Why did I decide to carry? Several reasons

1) Because I can.

2) It is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

3) Because I can.

4) Why should I rely on others to protect me when I am capable of doing so?

5) Because there are too many idiots out there that have them and shouldn't.

6) BECAUSE I CAN.

Because cops REACT to bad things happening. In the meantime, we should be PROACTIVE in our defense.

Personally I started carrying after seeing a dead man lying out on a sidewalk all day with a sheet over him while cops tried to sort things out. Seems he went to cash his check and some thug walked up and shot him in the head twice with a 22. All for $600.

MS-13 has decided to move away from the suburbs near DC toward the outlying areas where I live.:scrutiny:

Malls are rapidly becoming less safe, more like prime targets. Lots of people, one or two unarmed 'security' guards to yell 'no, stop' at someone walking in with a shotgun.

Times are changing. We need to exceed the challenge.

Re:Reasons To Carry

When the law changed in Virginia, there was a CHP class given at VMI. I signed up for that course, and then applied for my permit. I've had mine for a long time. In 2003, I got one for Pa. because I could, and I wanted to be "legal" in that state. I have many reasons for carry, most of which involve the unpredictibility of crime. It's good to be prepared. One of my other reasons is the huge threat leveled at me by my ex on the day of my divorce. The process I went through, the hiding, and dropping out of sight are all reasons for having a CHP. Now, after 9-11, and with the influx of illegals, plus gangs those are more reasons to carry concealed.
