I'm an idiot, I know... but

as a fanny packer in Illinois

what does that mean?

That means carrying (holding my head in shame compared to you folks in "freer" states) unloaded and encased in a fanny pack (only by FOID cardholders - don't do this as an out-of-stater).

Yeah, it ain't like in a holster like I carry when out of IL, but six seconds from a loaded gun in hand and shots on target compared to empty-hand defense appeals to me.

One thing us sheepdogs in Illinois have refined and honed is our situational awareness. You have to when it's gonna take you four or five seconds to get your piece into action.

So, there you go.

that's what i thought,

As I am also a victim of the idiots of Chicago. I am from around Peoria, but it doesn't make sense to me to carry an unloaded pistol (i.e., club) around in a fanny pack.
I mean, if we can't carry a firearm in a ready state of usage, then the amount of time it takes to open pack, insert clip, rack slide and still face the threat I would think be better spent in leaving the area.

Just my thoughts.

I'm the starter of the other thread.

I was interested in expanding on the definition of "unlawfully carrying in someone's residence." Some hypothetical questions:

1. Am I "unlawfully carrying" if the owner specifically prohibits firearms via sign or speech and I do anyway? (This one seems obvious. I'm in violation of the rules they set on their own property.)

2. Am I "unlawfully carrying" if the owner asks me to leave after they discover I am carrying and I refuse to leave? (Obviously. I'm trespassing now.)

3. Am I "unlawfully carrying" if the owner hasn't stated a rule via sign or speech, but it is "generally known" or "implied" to everyone but me that they don't abide firearms in their home? (Don't know. If everyone "knows" but me, how am I in violation of a law?)

And the kickers:

4. Am I "unlawfully carrying" if the owner hasn't stated a rule via sign or speech, their firearms toleration preference is unknown, and I carry into their home?

5. Am I obligated to ask the owner of every house I enter if it is OK with them if I have a firearm?

CCW is welcome in my home. I think it is rude and impolite of any host to compromise the safety of their guests by wanting them disarmed.
