If you are carrying concealed, is it legal to expose the spare Magazine or two. Or is it only legal to have them covered in Mag holder that is enclosed. I carry in a blk velcro closed case and never had a problem. But usually you can't tell what it is, because it's next to my cell case. What's the consensus on this.

I've never read anywhere that this is addressed explicitly in the law. I have only familiarized myself with a few states' laws on concealed carry, however. I try to keep mine concealed.

I don't think it matters, well... other than some odd state law. You could wave a loaded magazine around and not be brandishing unless something like "or part thereof" is included in the definition.

In Ohio, I can carry gun AND magazines OPENLY. You can openly carry anything that it's lawful to carry at all.

That's Ohio law.

In KY you can open carry w/ extra mags. Just took the CCW course last weekend and I don't recall anything dealing with that in the materials. I guess it would depend on the state laws where you are at.

It would not at all be hard to argue in court that intentionally displaying a loaded magazine is equivalent to brandishing since it clearly shows, "I have a gun" just for the sake of showing it. However, incidental display of a magazine is not generally illegal and would not carry any normal ramifications.

Not only would it be "hard" in Ohio, it'd be pretty near impossible to do so without being laughed out of court (and sued). If open carry of a firearm is lawful, you'd have to be pretty stupid to think you could bring charges against somebody for displaying a magazine and just walk away from that unscathed.

With summer coming I'm wondering how I will conceal my little Ruger .380. An extra magazine is out of the question. I guess this discussion is for winter carry only.
