How discreet are you about your spare mags?

You all DO carry spare magazines, right? :scrutiny:

I'm just wondering how discreet you all are about not letting them be seen.

I generally carry my single stack mags either one in a leatherman pouch, or two in a generic army-navy store belt pouch. In the case of carrying the leatherman pouch, I'm not real worried about being discreet, because it looks just like a leatherman. If I carry the double, I still don't worry about it much, because unless you're a gun-guy/gal, you can't really identify what it is.

With the doublestack 45 mags, I carry one backup in the same pouch I use for the 2 single stacks. That one, though, you can tell is a magazine if you look closely.

In both cases, I try to keep my shirt tail covering the spare mag pouch, but I'm not usually hyper-attentive to it the way I am to making sure the gun is always concealed.

At work, I have to be discreet. I carry the thinner 9mm, and keep my spare mag in an Uncle Mike pocket holster, tucked in my back pocket.

So, how discreet are you guys about carrying spare magazines?

I know some fellas are going to flame me but I don't carry a spare mag in my daily carry. In the rare situation when I do: my belly-band holster has a pocket for spare magazine.

..Yes discretion is important. It is conceal-carry after all

I really don't care one way or the other. Open carry is legal here, so often the only reason I'm carrying concealed is because it's cold and my jacket covers the gun. Once I'm inside and take my jacket off (like a restaurant) I'm carrying open; gun and mag(s).

When I carry a spare mag, it is in a Comptac single mag pouch (OWB). I conceal it the same way I do the IWB pistol... covered by whatever shirt or jacket I'm wearing. I care that it stays covered, but don't really care about "printing", since I'm convinced that nobody notices, and wouldn't really know what it is even if they did see some printing. I'm not any more or less concerned about the mag than I am the pistol.

My quik-strip of .357 golden speers to re-supply my ruger fits nicely in my front pocket with my cash (if i have any) thats 10-rounds of .357 mag,, i figure if i need more than that,, i brought the wrong gun to the wrong fight,, better make shots count..

I try to be somewhat discreet, but I am not as careful about it as I am with my pistol. My spare mag is next to my flashlight and Leatherman on my belt, most people never even notice if my shirt happens to ride up.

If I have to use a tuckable holster, the spare mag goes in a pocket.

Honestly only two people have ever noticed and I just said it was my flashlight and "stuff."

Most people never notice even my pistol on the rare occasion that I open carry. I am sure that the others who OC will say the same thing.

Very discrete. If someone who is actually going to do something bad sees them, they'll know I'm carrying. And if that doesn't deter them, it means that the bad guy will just target me first. I'm not interested in being the first guy shot in a shooting spree or shot straight out instead of mugged because the perp knew I was carrying a gun.

For that reason, I don't understand open carry. Might as well spray paint "shoot me first!" on your shirt.

Why carry a gun at all, if you believe a violent criminal will not kill you unless you resist?

Replacing a wallet and everything in it is way cheaper and less hassle than court.

I treat the mags exactly the same as the firearm, as far as discretion goes. Unless you are CC'ing solely to meet the letter of the law in states that require a cover garment, I don't see the point of OC'ing magazines while CC'ing a firearm.

The concern re: CC vs. OC (for those of us who choose CC even where OC is legal) is that a violent criminal who knows ahead of time not only that you are carrying, but exactly where and what you are carrying, could alter his tactics to put you at a disadvantage vs. if he approached you thinking you were an unarmed victim. The jewelry-store owner who was shot in the head by robbers the instant they cleared the door comes to mind. There are certainly criminals who are willing to plan around OC:

Man Legally Carrying Gun Robbed at Gunpoint

Man robbed in the Centreville area

Both of those incidents could have turned out much worse. There is a thread and some discussion here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=528082

IMO, if the worst comes to the worst, it is certainly in one's best interest for an attacker to be complacent, overconfident, and surprised rather than fully aware, proactive, and calculating. If one feels that OC has no downsides vs. CC and prefer OC, I have no problem with that, but I believe there are indeed rational reasons to prefer CC in public, all else being equal.

I have roughly 1.3 metric s***tons of 5.11 style pants and jackets and stuff that I snap up whenever I find it on sale. It may seem mall ninja to some, but seriously, when you can get a pair of pants that are twice as sturdy as dockers at half the price, plus come with magazine pouches? That's a pretty good deal IMHO.

I also sometimes use an eotac pocket organizer to carry a PF-9 with 2 magazines in a cargo pocket.

I think that not being descreet with the mags would be the same as open cary, for tactical purposes. How many have thought that if a criminal type werent even commiting a crime, but noticed that you had a mag on your belt, would think that you aso had a gun, and decided to follow you to an opportunistic place, and get the drop on us?
When I carry my 1911(s) I either carry the spare mags in a homade leather wallet, in my back pocket, or opposite the gun in a shoulder rig. If I am limited to my LCP, I usually carry an extra in the oposite jacket pocket or pants pocket.

I try to always carry one spare mag, but I am not as good about that when I carry a double stacked pistol. When I carry a spare mag I do make sure that it is concealed.

I always carry a spare speed strip when I carry a revolver, and if I am wearing a coat, I will also carry a speed loader.

I carry in a shoulder holster, so my two spare mags offset the firearm in the harness, so if my gun's concealed (which it always is) my reloads are too.

I use a double IWB from Tucker Gunleather ... I'm able to reload faster than from a Velcro/Snap pouch and it balances out the IWB gun nicely.

But I hate crap hanging outside my belt, so my methods may not jube with people who like snaggy OWB carry.

I'm not discreet at all about spare mags since I rarely carry anything other than a revolver with no reload. If I have to go into what I consider a high risk area, I carry a Glock 23 with a spare mag in my pocket. Essentially I just add the Glock to my regular carry and it is in a belt holster semi-visible for the most part. (essentially police style.) Normally I just pass on the high risk areas. It is not worth getting shot for a few hundred bucks I might make.

I carry two spare mags in my magazine holster. It's carried concealed similar to my gun. Just like my gun I honestly don't worry about being discreet to much at all.
