How discreet are you about your spare mags?

2 spare magazines in a Galco DMC, OWB. They print worse than the gun, but I don't care how much I print. People are oblivious.

You all DO carry spare magazines, right?

No, I DO not.

+1. I don't expect to need more than 1 shot to stop an assailant (most likely scenario), 2 if there are 2 assailants, and if there are more than 2 assailants, then I'm not likely to get off enough shots to get them all. IMHO, one magazine is sufficient.

I would like to say that number of rounds is not the sole reason to carry a spare mag. The most common failure in semi-autos are magazine related. For me, the extra mag is about being able to finish the fight mostly and more rounds is a nice bonus.

I have a surplus mag pouch for a P6 and it conceals rather well and if it happens to show it looks just like a knife pouch.

i carry at least one spare mag, & you would never know i had it on. i keep it that way becuse if somebody goes to rob me, i don't want them to know im carrying. i want to have every advantage i can.

Yep... Most people carry more than one credit card... I don't use CCs, but I do carry a spare mag. :)
I was reading where somebody did a study out of New York.... said that "most times" no more than five (5) shots were fired. (I hate quotes where I don't know the source. So get upset with me if you like. Most likely not gospel.) Anyway... I've got 16... What happens if I am not in one of those "most times?" What happens if my mag sticks or messes up? When I think about it, I don't carry for "most times." The odds are that I will never need a handgun. But, what about the time I do?

For me, that one time came almost 15 years ago. Now, I won't be with a handgun or extra mag. I keep my mag as hidden as possible. Usually, it is outside the belt. I looks like a light or something under the shirt anyway.

Calculated risks. I live in Rural Maine. I am willing to live with the risk that if I get into a gun fight the 9 rounds of .45 will be sufficient, if not... well... I am not afraid to take some risks. Shoot, on a 90 degree day I hope on my Goldwing without a helmet

I'd be interested to see that study also. My dad recently took a course in Birmingham and the instructor said that the average number of shots in a shooting is 3 (don't know if that's per person or total). When I asked him why he got an XD9 that holds 19 rounds, he said he always liked to be above average, lol.

I don't carry my gun just yet (applied for CCW last Monday, and apparently the sheriff's office was closed from Friday thru today) but will carry a spare magazine in my pocket when I start to carry.

I have a empty leather Leatherman case that is just right, only problem I've ever had with it is someone asking to borrow my leatherman, Then I have to make excuses for why I'm carrying a broken leatherman.

Don Mann's 2010 writing on handgun training. Among many other qualifications he is a decorated combat veteran, small arms weapons trainer, & Navy SEAL. He says, "There has been very little data indicating the need for high capacity or bulky magazines. In very few cases have more than five shots been fired in a handgun shootout. And with few exceptions, there has not been the need for a reload to continue a fight. The exceptions include the infamous Miami and North Hollywood shootouts, in which a multitude of rounds were fired."

This was plagerized from another site.... Just FYI ... Took me a while to see where I read the info. As with all things on the internet... You never know how much is true... Take it with a grain of salt so to speak..

for my single stack 1911 spare mag I've got a Milt Sparks
#IPS - it's IWB with a loop that has a snap if I need to remove it
I don't have to loosen the belt. Same with the #Axiom holster
by MS - it has two snaps for each of it's belt loops.;

My belt reminds me more a LEO's belt, So much needed stuff on it and so little room for more. At least i guess a LEO's belt is like that.

I carry an 8 round 1911 single stack on my belt when my left back pocket isn't filled with my MK9 bug. But when i go back to IWB for summer carry it will be a toss up that day as to carrying a bug or a spare mag. But i may be on the hunt for another knife pouch during IWB season. They work well, But since i already have one horizontal knife pouch with my Benchmade knife in it two may look odd.

IMO there isn't much difference in carrying a spare mag and carrying a bug.
I do both so if i ever fall into a pool ill be directly pulled to the bottom, No tupperware on my body!

BTW i make my own single mag carriers for both my belt and back pocket.

Crap i never even answered the original question, But as you can see i put as much thought in hiding my spare mags as i do my weapons.
OC is legal here also, But i wont do it anyplace a general public would be alarmed.

I hear that said a lot, but I've never had one in my carry gun. On the rare times I decided to carry a spare magazine it was for more ammo.

A signifcant part of the reason I carry a spare mag is to help balance out the weight of the pistol. It doesn't weigh as much as the gun of course, but it helps. If I did the leatherman/flashlight/OC spray/general total-batman-utility belt thing, I would just use that stuff instead of the spare mag.

At least one spare mag sometimes two, OWB, Blackhawk with positive retention. As far as anyone noticing, even my wife has to ask if I am carrying.

I carry so much stuff on my belt already (gun, key clip, mag pouch, cellphone pouch, portable ham radio, flashlight) I just gave up and put everything on a Uncle Mikes pistol belt. Makes it so easy to put on and take off at the beginning and end of the day. It stays by my bed when I'm sleeping and I something happens, (loud noise, unexpected knock at the side door) I just get up and grab the belt and have it on me in seconds with everything I need. Reminds me of my LBE (load bearing equipt) that I had in the Army. Since I'm not trying to conceal I don't care if it looks like a batman/cop belt. It does what I need and that is to keep my stuff easily at hand.
