Plated bullets should use LOW to Mid-RANGE data

*How do I load Berry's Preferred Plated Bullets?
Plated bullets occupy a position between cast bullets and jacketed bullets. They are soft lead, but have a hard outer shell on them. When loading plated bullets we have found best results using low- to mid-range jacketed data in the load manual. You must use data for a bullet that has the same weight and profile as the one you are loading. Do not exceed mid-range loads. Do not use magnum loads.

40 S&W is one of the most dangerous calibers to reload because it is very sensitive to pressure spikes when seated deep. shorting the OAL by 1/10 of an inch can double the pressure. i have reloaded many thousands of this caliber all to replicate factory SD ammo. all with a heavy crimp. a factory round in the green bullet erasor may move on the 3rd wack but comes all the way out on the 4th. mine do the same. a normal crimp is 3 hits its out. light crimp ( for cowboy ) is 2 hits.
my thought is the light crimp allowed the bullet to some how become set back and this was the result; not too much powder nor firing out of battery. good that you are ok.
would be nice to have the case base to examine--esp the primer for pressure signs and firing pin mark.
