Greetings,

My experiences with hard cast bullets is limited to handguns.

I found out tge bullets at the bottom of that page

http://magnusbullets.com/store/page3.html

The number 207 or 208.

If i want to load them and shoot them in my 30 cal rifles, mainky 308 and 30-06, would i have a lot of lead deposit in the barrel? I am asking because with my handguns, it took me a long time to find the perfect recipe for each gun to limit leading...

castmine.gif Light loads at low velicity with plan base can work. I have always used a Gas Check bullet in 30-30, 308win., 30-06. Bullet diameter may need to be as large as .311" for some riflles.

Commercial cast bullets will do pretty well if you keep the loads light; settle for pistol ballistics. As one old timer said, a .357 Magnum 158 at 1510 is a big powerful pistol. But it is a small game and plinking subload in a .35 Whelen.

I don't even push for 1500 fps, 1000-1200 is enough for 100 yards.
.30-06 165 gr Laser Cast plainbase 12 gr 700X shot into 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

I could get higher velocity but no better accuracy with my own or a friend's bullets, or even true custom cast from Shappey or Fusilier.

Leading can be a complex issue, but it doesn't have to be an issue at all. Before I purchased bullets I would first slug the bore in each gun to make sure you get the correct size bullet,in general you want you cast lead bullet to be .001 to .002 over groove to groove dia. of your rifles bore.

Bullet to bore fit is the first thing you need to consider to avoid leading, hard, soft, gas check or plain base want matter if the bullet is to small to begin with, your just going to get gas blowby, burn the lube off and your going to lead the bore, accuracy will also suffer.

As mention those bullet will probably work well if kept to low velocity 1200 fps. should be fine. You might can shoot them a little faster but I would push it. I cast my own for various 30 cal rifles,my 30-30 and 300 Sav. shoot best with .310 to .311 dia. bullets and I shoot them from 1200 to 2K fps. with no leading issues.

Gas checked bullet on the Left 170 gr. RNFP is shot as a planking bullet in my 30-30 with the GC left off, other wise with the GC on I shoot them right at about 2K fps.

Some good info on loading cast bullets in military cal rifles. I use the #1 load quiet often in my Mosin for tin can plinking with a .314 90 gr. cast bullet.
