Don't have a fancy backyard range. Rather just a huge flat yard big enough to shoot 200 yards and a 7 foot tall by 40 foot wide dirt back stop faced with sand. So when I shoot I haul everything out on an ATV or Jeep and set up to the distance I want. I have a portable bench rest that breaks down. One of the biggest hassles was catching my brass. Especially since I recently started reloading rifle and rifle brass is expensive. I used a plastic tarp that was weighed down for years. Brass would bounce off of it or the wind would pick up the tarp and flop all the brass off into the grass. The tarp was nasty and just a pure hassle to handle.

Ordered this net and a camera stand and both came in the mail today. Gave this set up a try today and a huge improvement over using tarp. It will adjust to 67" high so I can use it to catch brass off my M1A shooting from a bench or shooting my semi auto pistols while standing ant it breaks down nicely for transport.

For my handguns I use a fresh water fish net when on the bench. I also mount it to an adjustable tripod for rifle when standing. The only thing to watch for is sometimes a hot shell will melt the netting, watch for that!! Good looking catch net. Enjoy!! 74man

If I had a place I would use one of the new aluminum covers with a wall to block it from flying off. It would be double nice here in TN because that sun gets mean.

As I try different reload recipes so does the ejection pattern. One of the main reasons the tarp was failing. Catching the brass close to the ejection point is making it a lot easier for me to keep all my brass.

What you really need is me for a shooting buddy. I’m a brass magnet. If someone is shooting an auto on the other side of Pluto, it will find its way to me. And still be red hot when it lands. :(

Looks legit. I used a painters drop cloth instead of a plastic tarp. It did everything except SKS and Tokarev.
Now I have a conservation range with concrete floor, and a roof. It helps find brass. But I can't shoot as often as I did with a home range.

Just a suggestion if you can’t aim the gun at the target and the fishnet brass catcher at the same time.
I hate to pick up brass, but decided to suck it up and practice “brass pickup yoga”. It still sucks, but it’s fun getting weird looks from people.

If that's the case.....................can I get all the 380 and 10mm brass that has escaped me,back.....?......now if I could find someone for the sockets and socks.............:)

I feel your pain, I did the large tarp thing and it was just a pain. Mine was this PVC nightmare that while it worked was just so much stuff to haul down there. I have a large fishing net and several tripods, I will give your idea a shot next time.

Last time out I shot an automatic I found ONE 9mm out of 3 mags I shot. Just made me mad. All brass is hard to come by anymore and expensive.

I have a brass catcher I made over 20 yrs ago still going strong. I have a top for it not shown. I too have and shoot on my own property, longest range is 300 yrds.

I normally set this on my bench. But at one time had a base on it to attach to tripod.
I normally put a trash bag inside to collect the brass so all I have to do is pull the bag and go .

I have one of those brass traps shown at top of thread and it kind of works.

I installed a wire on the top to hold the mesh up and out. Made it better. The brass hits the mesh and bounces out about 25 percent of the time. And it misses the net another 25 percent.

Better than nothing....

Shooting from a bench, I use a setup much like yours, frogfurr. Offhand handguns, I use this, especially on my 10mms: Brass Catcher 220802.jpg

Sadly, the polymer clip doesn't hood up to the punishing 10mm energy, so I modified it. This works great. I really like it!

An alternative is to buy a firearm that doesn't put brass into the next ZIP Code or low earth orbit.

Great idea.

I had just spead a drop cloth (or old bedspread) on the ground and then gathered it up by the corners, but it seemed like some brass always landed somewhere else I couldn't find.
