I tested out my new Makarov and my new brass-catching umbrella tent thing today. I used mesh tarps cliped to an umbrella and it worked very well. I did still manage to lose one casing out of 100 fired. You think you have it covered, then statistics kicks in.

You've fixed the 'chase the brass" problem. I hate chasing brass! But I do like shooting semi auto guns. I'll hang a curtain at the club to help keep things under control if I can get the table on the far right. It helps a little.

Looks lie that works for you and have shade too. I went a little different way and made a catcher out of a plastic 50 cal ammo can, tripod legs and mosquito netting. It works very well if you position the gun in the right spot. I built this for when I was shooting at an indoor range. I just set it on the bench next to the divider and target mover. I do have a top that goes on it for use when I'm shooting a gun that likes to launch brass into orbit.

I have seen one like the one blue built where the fellow used a cheap folding laundry basket from Walmart.

What size ammo box is that? I may try to make one, it's neat.
It's a 50 cal box. The legs are tripod legs from $9 tripods, cheap. In the bottom of the box I have 2 2x4 angled drilled holes to accept the legs. The top part is held out with 1x3 stuck on with velcro for easy breakdown. The netting was like $3/linear yard from Hancock Fabric. There are little pockets on top of the netting to hang on the tripod legs. Then I used snap to attach the front net. This was needed to keep the brass from bouncing out when it rolled down the netting hitting the supports. There are several loops that hold the netting to the legs via snaps. If you need some detail picture let me know and I will get some for you. I originally wanted the legs small enough to fit in the box. But the clearance price for these were too good to pass up.

Very nice, you can shoot and have a picnic in the shade of the tent. Pretty cool really.

At night add one more section and be mosquito free too.

Where did you get the mesh tarps?

I have a fish seine I was going to use for one of my shooting structures but a taller net would be nice.

I'm looking for trampoline netting to hang up at the range beside the shooting table. I like the "tent" idea, good job.

Never thought of that.
Great idea.:)
My Mini 14 likes to throw brass about 25' give or take.

jmorris - I got the mesh tarps at my local True Value hardware store. I know they are also available from Harbor Freight, so you can probably get them at most hardware stores. I used one 8x16' and a 8x10' which allows a 1/8th section of the umbrella to remain open and has a little overlap to get in and out from the rear.
