Catching brass

I have a mail box bolted under my shooting bench where I keep one of those fold up laundry baskets. If it’s windy, I set a box of loaded ammunition inside it so it doesn’t blow off.

I also made this holder for a pool net that does the job.

I also have made a few gun mounted ones out of cheap Velcro catchers and eBay QD setups.

I use the Caldwell brass catcher that mounts on a camera tripod. I hang a 1/2 gallon water bottle from the center hook on the tripod to keep it stable in the wind. The brass catcher was $30 when I bought it 4 years ago and now it's about double that (along with everything else.)

Yep. I thought about using some sort of tarp or net, but during load workups, but my brass ejection trajectories varies so much many would miss the tarp/net (and I ain't gonna attach anything to the side of my gun). My Garand would toss brass anywhere from 10' at 1:00 to 20' at 3:30 depending on the load. Also got tired of hauling a bunch of stuff to the "range" unpacking, setting up then repacking and storing when I got home. Getting too old and sore to bend over and pick up brass then I found one of these EXreach&grabber and I can pick up small 380 brass and up easily while I wait for my gun to cool... https://www.amazon.com/Rotary-40-EZ...ywords=ez+reach+grabber&qid=1671132499&sr=8-5

That’s what I made that rifle holder/brass catcher on a tripod for.

I step in the shop to adjust the load and step outside to the rifle and send it past the chronograph to the target and repeat.

If I am using a bench those laundry baskets are neat. They fit inside a 1 gallon ziplock bag but you better stuff a couple more bags in there too as they generally wind up holding brass folks leave at my range. :)

That’s the one in the video I posted earlier, just to the left of the paint cans. Could probably put one behind the foam in a rifle case…
