CCI 22LR quite ammo.

I picked up two 50 count boxes of this ammo today. Its the first I've ever seen of this type of ammo. Its rated around 710fps. Anyone have experience with this. I'm assuming this is bolt action or revolver only 22lr.

Correct, it won't cycle a semi-auto, not even a lightweight action such as a Hammerli (I checked)You'll probably get the most of it in a bolt-action 22 rifle such as made by Browning and Savage, with a suppressor.

It has a heavier bullet and a faster one so you get a better kill on pests.

It does cycle in my wifes 10/22 but only after I put the old 1973 recoil spring back in it. Mine has a lite weight kidd spring and no such luck.

It is a good hunting round but if your use to shooting standard velocity ammo and zeroed at 25 yards the quiet will print around 1 1/2 lower out of my savage bolt rifle with 25 yard group size of 1/2 to 5/8". Accuracy is acceptable for plinking and hunting. Oh, shooting in the open it is quiet. You can hear the fireing pin snap more than the bang in a 21" barrel .

It is quiet compared to standard CCI high speed 22 LR ammo. The deal is that you are shooting a full 40 gr bullet versus a smaller bullet weight in other low velocity ammo that is manufactured by CCI.

Definitely quieter than CCI Mini Mags or Standard Velocity. I have used it in my CZ 452. I suggest that, if you are planning to hunt, you want to make sure you have your scope zeroed for that specific ammunition. There's a noticeable difference in POI from the CCI types.

I tried some. I usually shoot the CCI CB shorts in my bolt action. The "Quiet LR" rounds are not as quiet as the shorts, and due to the heavier grain bullet, I have better accuracy and range with the shorts. At least it feels that way, I haven't done any scientific tests.

I got some decent 20-25 yd. accuracy out of them with an old Winchester Mod. 67 bolt gun. Minute of 12 oz. soda can accuracy anyway. They are quieter but I probably won't even try 'em in the 10/22. Just gonna use 'em in the three 22LR bolt guns I have. Has anyone tried them on something like squirrels? I use standard 22 LR for squirrel hunting but was just curious what these things would do on small critters.

I've not bought any of the Quiet CCI 22LR ammo, but any thoughts about if it would cycle a Ruger 22/45 semi pistol with suppressor?

I highly doubt they'll cycle the 22/45. They didn't with mine. I have a Henry H001T I love and I shoot bricks of CB and Aguila Colibris through it. My favorite low noise plinker is the Colibri. All you here is a Pft and that's it. It is NOT good for squirrel or other large pest/rodent but does a job on field mice. Just gotta be quick. For squirrels up close the CB gets my nod for low noise. IIRC it will hold over 20 CBs and they are a lot of fun at soda gun range. The Colibri I can watch fly out and hit whatever I'm aiming at.

Locally when ammo was good, the CB and Colibri was cheaper than the quiet stuff from CCI.

I shot a squirrel with a round of that ammo. I was new to the neighborhood and the squirrels had been getting into the house and being quite a nuisance. My new landlord had been killing them so I figured I would too. The only problem is that I hit the squirrel right behind the head where the bullet had to hit the spine at some point. But the little tree rat just kept right on running. I haven't missed killing a squirrel in about 20 years. I didn't miss that one. It did die. It just took it 3 days to do it. My dog brought it in as a chew toy or I would never have known that it died.

I don't like that. I've seen lots of squirrels killed with shorts. I think this stuff is less powerful than the shorts we used for hunting when I was a kid. We never hunted with CB shorts or anything like that. But just as an example CCI also makes shorts that travel at over 1100 fps. Compare that to the 700 fps of the Quiet stuff. The big difference is in the energy at the muzzle which is 45 for the Quiet and 73 for the Short HV HP. CCI also makes a solid point short HV which has a muzzle energy of 75. I know the shorts I grew up with didn't have that much power but I'm sure they had more than the Quiet stuff.

So if you want to plink and not disturb the neighbors the Quiet stuff should be fine. I haven't even tried it in any of my semi-autos. But don't expect it to dispatch game or varmints. It seems really weak for that IMO.

I've actually seen CB shorts that were MUCH quieter than this CCI stuff but they quit making it many years ago. Colibri is definitely quieter and weaker too. Aquila makes that. It's harder to find but it's around if you look.

What's nice about the CCI Quiet is that since it is a full length LR cartridge it feeds from LR box magazines easily. More and more rimfire bolt rifles are built with box magazines, so it seems the cartridge was made for this trend.

I also like short range target shooting and plinking out of revolvers with CCI Quiet. The accuracy is not as good as some .22LR ammo, but it is much better than the Colibris and Super Colibris out of my revolvers. Of course, coming out of a short barrel the CCI Quiet is not quiet. Yet, the sound is still noticeably lessened compared to standard .22 LR.

I've tried it in 4 different rifles, all of them quite accurate with CCI SV, Wolf Target, and S&K Magazine. Two bolt actions, a lever action, and a highly modified 10/22 that I hand cycled. They are pretty quite. They also gave terrible accuracy in every rifle. :banghead:

Well Cee Zee, I've used them last year for squirrel hunting and had no problem making one shot kills out to 45 yards. I also made a one shot kill on a coon so they have the power. Did you sight your gun in for these or just shoot them thinking they shoot the same as other ammo?

This family of coons were knocked out of a tree by CCI Quiets. Each only required one head shot. They'd been tipping over trash cans all up and down the block for two weeks, plus getting into my fruit trees.
I slipped outside about 2AM last March and spotted them in my vegetable garden with my night vision monocular. I rushed them and they ran up the closest oak tree. After that, it was a simple matter to pick them off, one by one.
When I saw my neighbor the next day, I apologized for all the shooting at that ungodly hour. He said, "What shooting? I didn't hear a thing!"
That's what CCI Quiets were made for. Short-range, quiet backyard varmint control. Those who expect more should go with another round.

cee zee sound more like you made a bad shot. Check your sights and aim at the head , not the neck. More than good enough to kill tree rats at reasonable distance I ever hunted them from.
