CCI 450 magnum small rifle primer question

In reality if this ammo is being shot in an AR rifle you are probably better off with the magnum primer. Magnum primers are recommended for .223 ammo shot in an AR.

If your load is light like you said you will be perfectly fine using the magnum primers. That is all I use in the form of CCI #41 and CCI-450 primers.

Been using 450s almost exclusively in .223 bolts with ball powder & all ARs since the early "nineties", and haven't found anything better thus far.
And that's not for lack of experimenting, either.
My brother uses #41s for ARs, but I've not seen the need to do so.

I was advised against using CCI #450's with extruded powders the other day, but this was for low-pressure apps where slow ball powders are called for anyway. Funny, I was checking out the Hodgdon 2012 annual reloading manual and as I recall all the .223 tests were done with Winchester small rifle primers, even the ball powders!

I get a rare slam fire with the nonmag primer. CCI recommends mag primers and/or #41, bother of which have thicker cup material for floating pin applications. You're good to go.
