Not sure what "conical ball" means, but I'm sure someone here will answer that one.
Bought 3 packs of 100 of these tonight to dink around with, I wanted something that was extremley quiet and possibly still lethal for small game like squirrels or magpies etc.
I had heard storys that these things were like a pellet gun going off, and in all honesty they pretty much are! I'd say just a little louder than a pump air gun, they are absolutley 100% safe to use indoors without hearing protection. I shot one at an old tool box and the noise it made was louder when it hit the box than it was from the barrel.
To test their lethality without actually shooting anything living (it was too dark) I tried to see how they compared to velocitor and mini-mag rounds. A velocitor will almost penetrate a full 1000 pages of a yellowpage phone book. Thats about 4/5 penetration. At 1400fps with 40 grains thats what you get.
With the CB Longs they are 28grain at 710fps and they managed to penetrate about 1/5 of the book. Both shots were pretty much point blank just to keep with consistancy. Watching the bolt on the 10/22 I noticed that it BARELY even moved thus you have to cycle it yourself manually. I was completley expecting this and am only telling you how much it moved just to give you an idea of what kind of force these have.
So sure, it can penetrate a bit of a phone book, I decided to try something more "fleshy" like a small lime, yes the thing you cut up and put into a rum and coke.
So about 4 feet away I shot the lime with a CB Long, the lime jerked slightly and after I picked it up I could see a rip in its skin. No hole, but some kind of penetration, since there was no exit hole I assumed the round was buried inside.
Took the lime upstairs and cut it up and there was defenitly no penetration, it just ripped the skin and bounced off! ouch...
So anyone here who says CB longs could kill a magpie with a nice shot to the head, I just don't believe it. I believe that it would knock it on its ass, but I don't think it would actually kill it, would it???
has anyone actually killed anything with this round? Did it penetrate or just give the critter enough of a concussion in which it died instantly? lol
input is appreciated
