I am very familiar with the general opinion of jennings/bryco/jimenez firearms, so that is covered.
What I would like to know is, if it would be safe to fire CCI stingers in one of these pistols? The CCI stingers are the hottest .22lr round I have seen in the stores, at something like 1640 fps. They work great in my Marlin 60, but don't know if I am pushing it or not in a J-22. If any one has any experience or ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks. Again, I realize these aren't considered reliable pistols, but I am mainly wondering about any safety issues.

Yes. With the nickel brass and harder recoil I wouldn't want to shoot anything but Stingers in a J22.
Granted the damn thing wouldn't shoot 2 shots without jamming EVERY time...it worked.

I had a J22...bought it as a novelty, just to see if they were bad as "they" say.

"they" were totally correct. :) It had problems with every single ammo I tried in it. Even Stingers. I read that CCI Minimags run good in those, so I gave it a go. Was pleasantly surprized. It only had a problem every 50 rounds or so with the Minimags. :)

Scrap...... I BUSTED 2 J22's with Stingers!

I Do not suggest it as a good option!

I know some here say it is a GO! But I busted 2 slides....1 Nickel and 1 Blue!

Slide broke in pieces on both pistols! They did cycle perfect in them....well for a little while!

That is just my personal experience! Ammo? or manufacturing blemish in both?

I don't know....but I know they broke in my hand firing CCI Stingers.

Tomcat, that's exactly what I was wondering about. I definitely do not want to bust slides or anything else. I may see how the CCI mini mags function before I try the stingers.

I don't have any direct experience with the Jennings, but based on the comments of other posters on this thread, it sound like if you're only going to get one or two shots off you might as well shoot stingers and make those shots count as much as possible.:D

I have a J22 that I bought in the mid 80's I believe. I shot it a few times and it jammed every other shot. So, I forgot about it. Fast forward to last year...

I rediscovered the little shiny POS at the bottom of my gun cleaning box. A little digging on the 'net said that I should polish the the feed ramp with a dremel polishing pad. I did that, went to WM and bought some CCI mini mags and Stingers. The shiny POS fires every time I pull the trigger. Unfortunatey, I can't tell if it shoots high, low, left or right...I can't hit the paper with it.:what:

My first handgun was a Jennings 22.
After about 30 rounds of cci the pistol blew apart into pieces.

I wasnt very knowlegable at the time about any pistol. It was just sitting in the glass counter for $50 bucks.
Thats my experience with my first pistol.
Maybe i had a bad round?
Either way i brought it back and got full credit.

I think that would be a wise decision scrap....my opinion...

I must say that mine did jam a lot with lesser brands such as winchester bobcat and federal (lightning) if I remember correctly??

But with Stingers they never jammed once.........and the Stingers did inevitably completely cure the cycling problem of all brands on them 2 pistols.

They never jammed again....:uhoh:

I have a Jeminez .22, newer but the same basic design, mine likes stingers, and loves minimags! Love the cheap little pistol, fun can popper!

Any zinc gun is going to peen things and crack things over time. A stinger will probably accelerate that. If the gun has a lifetime warranty like my Phoenix Arms POS has, (actually, I kinda like it, reliable and accurate, but admittedly a POS) why worry about the slide?

I had a Jennings 22 back in the late 70's, early 80's, before my first Walther PPK. Mine actually worked flawlessly with Remington Yellow Jackets. Other ammo, not so much. Overall it was much better than a sharp stick and somewhat comforting. Not bad for the money back then. Can't say that I'm particularly sentimental about it though. I sure wouldn't trade any of my current carry guns for it.

CCI stingers have a longer case than other 22lr. The only guns ive hear of them working well in are bolt action 22's. some people claim reliability in ruger 10/22's but it says in the manual not to use them. Use cci velocitors. They are pretty hot and have a heavier projectile.

My J-22, purchased new in 1987, runs flawlessly on CCI Mini-Mags. I did run a session with Stingers at least once, back when the gun was still probably less than a year old. During that session, the gun field-stripped itself at one of the shots.
I don't think a diet that includes even a few Stingers at one time is good for that gun.

My 10/22 from around 1982 and it has been shooting Stingers and other hot ammo. Its whole life with out a problem. Has Ruger cheapend out the 10/22 . Was best little 22 auto made.

They function fine in ALL my autos. Lessee, that'd be the HP22, the Mk 2 Ruger, the 10/22, an old Mossberg M152, 2 AR7s and an Explorer 2 pistol, an Erma LA22, and a Ramline Exactor. I think I got 'em all, might have missed one. They're not always accurate, but they are the most accurate in my 10/22 and my little Phoenix Arms pistol's 3" barrel. Just gotta try 'em and see. Mostly, I shoot Federal Lightening bulk pack plinking ammo for the price. :D

Stingers are only prohibited by Ruger in the 10/22 match heavy barrel version, since that type has a tight match chamber.

That makes sense.

Do yourself and your family a favor, take the thing apart, smack the pieces with a hammer, and throw in the trash.

contact ruger. they will tell you not to use stinger ammo in any of their guns due to the longer case length. Ive bought three 10/22's in the last year and a ruger 22/45 and all my manuals say not to use stinger ammo. I contacted a ruger rep (Mike Gladson) because I had heard the same thing about stinger being ok in anything except the target models but I was told that using stinger ammo is not recommended and WILL void your warranty. So if you use it and have no problems, good for you. Ive heard that older 10/22's cycle it with no problems.
