ccw at disney world

Disney's rationale for being able to circumvent the law has to do with their explosives permits and they are saying that is a way for them to disallow you from carrying on their property. It isn't in Disney that you need a gun - their security is excellent, but if you are in Orlando, especially on International Drive, you WILL need some protection there

As it is well known that any firearm's are not permitted in the park, attempting to do so knowing this could quite possibly only serve to ruin a vacation. If found, as already pointed out removal from the park is a certainty. Unlike other major attractions in the area, WDW is a county into themselves totally self sufficient for the most part.

As it is going to be relative warm, the possibly locations to carry discreetly are going to be limited. I've heard from LE contacts that they provide secure locations at the entrances for handguns but that is not a certainty.

On February 2, 1967, Roy O. Disney held a press conference at the Park Theatres in Winter Park, Florida. The role of EPCOT was emphasized in the film that was played, the last one recorded by Walt Disney before his death. After the film, it was explained that for Walt Disney World to succeed, a special district would have to be formed: the Reedy Creek Improvement District with two cities inside it, the City of Bay Lake and the City of Reedy Creek (now the City of Lake Buena Vista). In addition to the standard powers of an incorporated city, which include the issuance of tax-free bonds, the district would have immunity from any current or future county or state land-use laws. The only areas where the district had to submit to the county and state would be property taxes and elevator inspections.[1]

The legislation forming the district and the two cities was signed into law on May 12, 1967. The Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1968 that the district was allowed to issue tax-exempt bonds for public projects within the district despite the sole beneficiary being Walt Disney Productions.

Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the theme parks?

Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:

* Items with wheels, such as:
o Wagons
o Skateboards

o Inline skates
o Shoes with built-in wheels
o Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
o Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)

Tyeo - thanks for posting that, but it's been established that Disney doesn't allow CCW in their parks. The issue now seems to be whether or not there is any law prohibiting it.

Well, I called Orlando PD. The lady I talked to said "guns aren't allowed in the parks." That certainly does not necessarily mean it is illegal. I also read some of Florida's laws on concealed carry and trespassing. Nowhere that I saw did it say that there is any special exemption for Disney that makes it a crime to carry on their property. As far as trespassing goes, I imagine that if they catch you with a gun, they can ask you to leave, however, you're not trespassing until they do so.

We will also be staying in one of their hotels. I would also think that since we are renting a hotel room, I would certainly be allowed to have my gun in the hotel room since I am paying for it.

So much fail in this thread.

Disney does not want anyone to carry firearms in their parks. Including off-duty LEO. (I know an FDLE director that thought he was special - he wasn't - had to take his firearm back to his off-property hotel!) As a private property owner, that is their right.

However, it is not illegal.

All of these posts that talk about being arrested, or Disney is it's own county, ex-special forces private police, Disney taking photographs and doing background checks are all B.S.

They, just like any other property owner in the state, can ask you to leave, period. They cannot touch you, detain you, take you into a back room a beat you with a rubber hose, etc. Only your failure to leave when asked can get you into legal trouble - Trespass After Warning.

+infinity to brboyer.

When you buy your ticket to Disney World, or rent your hotel room from Disney, you are agreeing to their terms and conditions. Violation of their terms and conditions can result in your removal from their property, with no refund. That's it. I would love to see the lawsuit for detention for interrogation by Mickey's special forces squad, maybe the Where's Nemo ride doubles as a water torture chamber?

I bet Mickey carries, 4 o'clock strong side under that coat he wears only at Disney World.
He wears button up shorts with suspenders in the cartoons.

His motto: Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 7 (dwarfs). :p

NavyLT,
When you purchase a ticket from them, are you actually agreeing to their policies? In most cases when purchasing tickets you're not actually shown their policies until you have the ticket in hand or [more often] attempt to enter.
If I was kicked out (or prohibited entry) for wishing to be better able to defend myself and my family, I would demand a refund. If I wasn't given that refund, they would be given some time in small claims court.

ccw and disney world should not be in the same sentance.. whens the last time someone needed a gun there. come on leave it in the car.

Using that theory, why carry a gun at all? Leave the gun at home always.

In 38 years a CCW was needed at Columbine High School only once.
In 10 years a CCW was needed at Luby's Cafeteria Restaurants nationwide only once.
In 69 years a CCW was needed at Ft. Hood only once.
In 140 years a CCW was needed at Virginia Tech only once.

According to your theory, just leave the gun at home no matter where you go, chances are you will never need it. Maybe you should ask the victims above if they agree with your theory. Oh, wait, my bad... you can't ask them anything.

Good point NavyLt. Sometimes it's worth the risk of being booted out of even the happiest place in the world, knowing that you're prepared for the most terrible event that can happen to your family.

I don't carry a gun based on odds. I carry a gun based on what's at stake.

I used to work at the theme parks. I did security there for a few years, so I can give you an honest answer to the question you asked.

The policy for the parks is simply "No firearms, knives, chemical sprays, or any other weapons allowed on property"

First, there are no laws that would legally stop you from carrying on the property. The no firearms thing is just a policy, and nothing more. If you are on property, and you decide to carry, you 99.99% will not be caught. You don't go through any medal detectors, and the bag searches are designed to be a general deterrent for local gangs bring in guns and drugs.

Security in the parks is very tight. They may have little to no power, but the Orlando Police Department is very quick to respond to anything that happens. There are about 10 officers assigned to each park, that just walk around and wait for security to call.

However, you are on private property. You can be asked to leave for ANY reason. They can issue a criminal trespass through the Orlando Police. It doesn't go on your record, but if you get this for any reason, DON'T argue. The police there like to make arrests, because it makes them look like they have a purpose, and they get more detail hours the more calls they respond to. Accept the trespass and leave. If you do not leave immediately, they can arrest you. If you have a firearm, its a FELONY.

Its not because you have a firearm, its because you did something that made them request you to leave. As long as your not doing something you shouldn't, you'll be fine.

Long story short, you can carry, as hundreds of people do every day. Don't print too badly and you'll be fine. I recommend an ankle rig, because of many of the rides, and heat can lead to discomfort on your side. (that, and security isn't trained to look for a gun on your ankle...)

And for those that have wondered, yes, they have trespassed off duty LEO's because he said he didn't have to leave for having a firearm. YOU CAN BE ASKED TO LEAVE SIMPLY FOR HAVING A FIREARM. OR any other reason. I personally saw some one get trespassed, and the warning said "Looked at me funny." under the reason - I kid you not...

WDW is a county into themselves totally self sufficient for the most part
Its part of Orange County, and under the jurisdiction of the Orlando police.
When you purchase a ticket from them, are you actually agreeing to their policies?
Nope, but if you read the back of the ticket, you are agreeing to them by using the ticket...

Not too long ago, I was doing security when some guys girlfriend got assaulted in the parking lot (by Man B). Man A pushed Man B and walked away. The Man B got in his truck and tried to run the couple down. Man A Jumps out of the way and fires three shots into the truck, not striking Man B, who stops at gun point and waits for the police to arrive. Ill spare you a long story, but it was justified as a legitimate shoot, and Man B was arrested for attempted murder or something. Stories like this don't make news...looks bad on the parks...

Things like this happen WAY more than one would think, but posting it in the news would make them look bad.

Having lived in Fl most of my life and in Central Fl. for over 15yrs, I am very familiar with Disney World and their security people. Their private police are composed of ex spec forces and even former FBI agents. They can spot a obvious carry and Will escort you off the premises as well as run a background check and photo you for the ticket windows. They don't give 2nd chances, they are an entity unto themselves and local and state are contacted by them, only after their own crime scene team have been through any crime there. I've had very good friends work there and one was an ex Ranger that worked with their security team. He said their interrigators could give the CIA lessons.

Thats the funniest thing I have read in a while.

and you would lose

Who the heck would want to go there anyway?

Spoken like a man who does not have small children.

If I was kicked out (or prohibited entry) for wishing to be better able to defend myself and my family, I would demand a refund. If I wasn't given that refund, they would be given some time in small claims court.

You would be wasting your time.

I enjoyed your post Worthy. I found it interesting that in the past when I carried at Disney there were hundreds of others doing the same thing.

Cool.

So, lets test it. Let someone who posted here that they can carry with no problem, do so. Of course the test is to show them your gun "in the park". Let's see what happens. It's called the Scientific Model. Experimentation and Observation. Enough with what everyone thinks.

Disney.......gun........no way. none.at.all

staying at disney?
get caught with a gun and they may be nice about it--pack your bags for you and leave you curbside with Fl's finest escort service. weather to the airport or the jail is up to them.
My wife would kill me if they left me curbside with Florida's finest escort service.
