One of the ticket takers tried to discourage me by telling me it was taking over an hour, but I told him I would wait. In the end it took 10 minutes and an apology from the undercover officer who came to verify my CHL. He did not check the handgun or anything like that. It was all very friendly.

well are you talking about the fair in waco or in belton they are both happening this week i think.....

Two years ago I CCWd there. Not worth it in my opinion (to go or to CCW there).
Driving in, I passed the east entrance and observed that they were using metal detectors on everyone. I didn't park more than about 200 yards from the entrance but based on what I had seen locked up my pistol in my tuffy box and proceeded to the entrance. Upon approaching the gate, I saw a man showing his CHL to on of the people with a wand and then they waved him past after directing him to farther point. I decided to walk back and get my pistol and follow his lead. No problems with the wand people. Showed CCW, they told me to tell them at the ticket window. At the ticket window, a nice lady explained that I would have to wait for a police officer to come by and check me in.
I waited. And waited. And waited. They kept telling me 10 minutes at the window and then explained that the officer in charge of doing this had gone on break. After about 50 minutes and watching tons of Dallas PD officers and sheriff's deputies go by, the plainclothes cop shows up and asks two questions, writes them down and lets me proceed in. Talk about a waste of time and effort. Her checking me out this way served no purpose whatsoever and this being the case, why didn't they just have any other Dallas PD guy on duty doing this.
After all of this aggravation, I didn't find much of interest at the fair in general. Overpriced food and drink. Tons of advertising and rip-off games and rides. Not my cup of tea. Time much better spent at the range.

Aside from GhostRider's experience, sounds like y'all live in a fairly civilized part of the country.

I am not a TX resident but did attend the Cotton Bowl football game in 2004 (Okla.State v. Ole Miss). While I had to abide by the TX State Code quoted in post #1, I was not happy with it given the nature of the neighborhood that surrounds the Fairgrounds. While I was an OSU partisan, the Ole Miss fans had it worse by flying the Confederate battle flag and playing "Dixie" from their car horns. Didn't envy them and what they might find upon returning to their cars after the game...
Bottom line for me is I didn't lose anything at the Fairgrounds so there is no reason for me to go back -- I feel the same way about the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in OKC.
