CCW Badges???

I was thumbing through a gun magazine recently and saw an add advertising a ccw badge. My first thought was that this could get someone in trouble by making them look like a cop. Later on i was in a resturaunt and a guy came in wearing plain clothes and a pistol on his hip. he didnt look suspicious but my radar went up so i kept an eye on him until i saw that he had a badge. then i wondered that if one had a ccw badge it would make it easier to open carry by making other people asume.

i think ill keep my piece tucked under my jacket/shirt, but im curious as to what you guys think. are these badges good or bad?

Why anyone would wear a CCW badge and then open carry is beyond me - concealed means concealed. By doing what that guy did you are coming very close to impersonating an officer - don't do it. Lots of threads on this, and at least one LEO said they'd be very unhappy if a guy flashed that badge at them. These are for wannabes.

Not having had enough morning coffee, I had a thought: A badge would make a dandy addition to the front door knocker.

The knocker would have to be one of the larger ones to have enough space to silver solder or braze it on and still have the knocker usable.

Kinda like he "pretends" to like sportsmen.

Buy one to admire if that floats your boat, but don't carry it. LEOs will take a very dim view of your wannabe badge if they are responding to a shooting in which you are involved, or asking for your ID.

I did a search on this before i posted it because it sounded like somthing that would have ran a bazillion times. i didnt find anything but i may have searched it wrong, who knows. We are allowed to open carry here in MN but a lot of people frown on it, thats why i asked if it would make it easier to open carry by making the yuppies asume. saves a lot of explaning. i like the door knocker idea.

Carry concealed so you don't startle the anti's and so you have a surprise advantage against the bad guys. Do NOT carry a badge, you are a civilian not LEO. Carrying a gun is to defend a life and not much more.

I still have a badge from when I worked for a government agency. Lots of non-law enforcement agents and civil servents carry ID badges. So do security guards. It's only illegal to misrepresent yourself as a police officer, not to carry a badge that does not say police on it. I have read a former NYPD cop advise armed citizens to hold up their driver's licenses when police approach after a gun-related incident, just like a cop would display his or her ID card and or badge, as this clearly marks them as the good guys to arriving oficers. So why not a badge? As long as you don't claim to be a cop you are in good shape.

In New Mexico, it is specifically forbidden to carry any other "indicia of licensure" other that the State issued CCW license itself. Open carry is legal, but wearing any kind of badge would make you look like a "strange ranger" IOW, a wannabe cop.

Civilians are non-military personnel. Therefore, LEOs, excepting military police, are also civilians.

not far-fetched. Recently, the mayor of Houston proposed just that. The Mayor was not pleased by the fact that he could not prohibit CCW in city hall. This was related by one of the speakers at the Gun Rights Policy Conference in 2003.

searching is fine before posting a question but sometimes you dont get the answers you were looking for or the info is old and you want updated opinions.

some people post here (like myself) to learn from the older, wiser, more experianced etc. etc., folks. Not to be chastised about posting somthing thats already been posted.

not trying to get on anyones nerves, just somthing ive observed.
