I got a very surprising call this afternoon from the Wake County Sheriff's Office here in Raleigh, North Carolina. The nice lady on the line informed me that my Concealed Handgun Permit was ready to be picked up. What was so surprising is that I submitted the application on Monday, September 20, exactly two weeks ago.
For those who don't know, in North Carolina they have 90 days to either issue your CCW permit or give a legally valid reason for denial. The word I had gotten was that Wake County typically uses the entire 90 days, or close to it. I hadn't expected to hear from them until at least the second half of November. Imagine my surprise that I am now sitting here on October 4th with my CCW in my wallet.
I don't know why it was so quick, whether there haven't been many applications lately, or if I'm just a really upstanding citizen.
