I've read lots of stories, and written a few, about printaphobia and all that. Everyone always responds that they've never been made etc. etc. even when a glock fell out on the floor at Blockbusters and so forth.

Has anyone ever been made while carrying? Just like to hear how it happened, what was the response, how the situation ended etc. It would be nice to know, in case it ever happens to me. :neener:

thanks

I've been "made" numerous times. Every single time it was a woman giving me a hug for whatever reason. Their reactions have been anything from surprise to excited approval. More than one girl has told me that they found it sexy. Which definitely wasn't a response I was expecting. So far I haven't had a negative reaction, probably because I don't hug ugly hippies ;)

I was made 2 weeks ago at my brother in law’s 40th birthday party. I carried on the 2 plus hour drive down to his house, the five hours I was there and got made by his mother on the way out. She gave me a big hug goodbye then felt it, and said, “What’s that?” I responded nonchalantly that it was my cell phone. She looked at me, shaking a finger at me and said, “You be good now.” She’s an old country girl, and not anti, and new darn well I was packing. Now if that had been my step mother, she'd been through the roof!

Another time my mother in law gave me a hug, and said ouch as she bumped my Glock. She asked what it was and I told her nothing. that was good enough for her, and I am certain she didn't think it was a gun.

Gotta watch those women and their hugs.

i think i was.... i carry a glock 19 iwb at my right hip. i took my dog to petsmart for food and nail clip and ear cleaning. long story short i was holding her so her front paws were over shoulders, but after a while she worked her back legs down to where one was basically resting on my weapon and the girl clipping the nails was right there. no one said anything but it doesn't mean she did not see

I get "made" all the time because I wear a "gunnysac", and do not look like a tourist, but I am ok with that. The cop's know who is carrying, so what?, and if the MZB/thug's know than maybe they will move on down the line, and not bother me.

For being made while hugging...it may not be 100% chivalarous, but lower your arms underneath the person who is hugging you, so their arms are forced to go around your neck, instead of body. This way arms are around neck...and not waist where the gun usually is...:)

Never been made that I know of, but I haven't been carrying long.

Story about the family thing: The first time I went home carrying my parents didn't know and I got a hug from my mom. She put her hand right on the gun (1911 Strong side) and didn't say anything. When they found out I was carrying the next time home I told her that and she was very surprised. I guess people see/feel what they expect. Now my dad 'checks' with his hugs and my mom makes a point NOT to hug there.

In the 35+ years I've been carrying, I've been "made" twice. Sort of funny, for both times took place in my local 7-11 store!

The first was back in about 1974, when I bought my home. I was taking late night walks around the neighborhood, looking at the way other folks had remodelled or "fixed up" their homes. I decided to walk over to the local 7-11 store for a cup of coffee.

As I approached the store, the employee was outside, sweeping the parking lot. A sudden gust of wind flapped my windbreaker, exposing my handgun. I immediately explained to the store employee that I was a LEO. His response was, "You look like a cop!" (BTW, he eventually became a LEO).

The second time was also for a cup of coffee at the local 7-11 store. I thought that I had discretely removed my wallet from the rear pocket of my trousers without exposing my handgun, but my jacket must have snagged. While standing in line to pay for my coffee, the customer behind me stated, "Your 'roscoe' is showing!" I turned toward the voice, and there was a clean-cut black man, in his mid-20's. I immediately told him that I was a police officer, and he merely nodded his head. I asked him if he was a LEO (he looked like one!), but he replied with, "No, but I'm glad that YOU are a police officer!"

Both of those incidents took place in the early 1970's. Since then, I've become more "savvy" about carrying. IWB holsters are the best, and learning how to utilize body positioning helps a lot. I haven't been "made" since about 1975.

I've never been made that I know of.

Of course, anybody who says they've never been made is only saying that nobody has ever pointed it out to them!

You do the best you can.

I think I would steer clear of people that discovered I was packing and merely took me at my word that I was a LEO. Especiallly a business owner that was about to be face to face with me while he handled a cash register.

I used to carry in a fanny pack....

but it was too obvious so I switched to a "man purse" I wear slung over my shoulder across my chest. Now, I get those "funny" looks like I am "one of THEM"......a gun in it probably doesn't enter their mind.....lol. I am rather large and an inside the waist holster is not workable and I do not do the safari vest thing, again too obvious in Texas warm weather. In the summer it is usually my Kel Tec in my front pocket. As far as I know, I have not been made.........chris3

I'm not sure if I was made, but I was in a liquor store the other day buying some wine, and the guy behind me in line asked me what model spyderco I was carrying.

I wear it weak side clipped inside my front pocket.

I couldn't see that he was carrying anything, but he was wearing a waist length jacket and he recognized the brand of knife from the clip. I had my suspicions. :)

Well. Nobody ever ran screaming "It's a fat guy with a gun...run for your life."

Before I got a real "range bag," I used to carry stuff to the range in a black nylon shoulder bag, that sort of looked like a purse, or maybe a camera bag. My wife and I were going into Wal-Mart one day, and I didn't want to leave the bag with three pistols in it, in the car, so I threw the bag over my shoulder.

On the way in, we stopped to talk to another couple who we didn't know. I forget what we were talking about, but he kept looking at the bag. Finally he asked me, "Do you always carry a purse? What do you have in that thing?" I laughed, and said "Three or four handguns, and a few hundred rounds of ammo." He kinda hung his head, and said "I guess it really is none of my business is it?" He never even glanced at the fanny pack that had my carry gun in it.

Right after I got my CTAC, I was made (within a few hours) by a fellow manager at my store. He saw the standard clips and quickly asked me if that was a gun on my hip. No big deal, he knows I am a shooter anyway.

Same day, my wife had NEVER seen my holster (got it shipped at work) and when I came through the door, she said "Nice holster dear" meaning to me that I was doing a poor job of concealing.

Bottom line....those Standard Clips that come with a CTAC caused this. I switched to the C-Clips and have much less trouble now.

Saw a guy wearing a Glock on his hip at a Panera Bread shop one SAT AM in Fredericksburg VA. He stretched and yawned, and when he did his shirt rose up over his pistol on his hip. I walked by his table on the way out and told him his pistol showed when he stretched. He looked real nervous as he thanked me. He had a look in his eyes that said he didn't have a CC permit.

Oooooops. Sorry. Thought I was on the ever made anyone thread. Not an auspicious first post, eh?

No, I've never been made..........I think.
