I moved to Washington State from Illinois and I believe they both suffer from the same Big City Liberal Demoratic Machine syndrome. While most all of Washington State and Illinois consist of conservative folks, Seattle and Chicago dictate the politics of everyone. Until you get rid of the Daley machine and, in my present case, the Seattle King County machine, you will always have to fight uphill for gun rights. I gave up on Illinois...I think Washington is worth fighting for though...no patronage here.

Well lets see how everyone votes. If they vote Pro-gun then maybe next election they will see more votes and campaign contributions.

What I am kind of worried about is the governor vetoing the bill.

I'm not worried about it. I honestly don't think it'll get that far this year, but if it does, he's a known quantity. We knew when he was elected the first time that CCW bills would be vetoed as a matter of course.

We have a long fight ahead of us before we even worry about crossing that bridge.

I’ve been told by the ISRA lobbyist that the Bradley bill won’t be called. He realizes the 71 votes needed to pass it aren’t there, though we could get a simple majority of votes. The Speaker always rules that pro-gun bills need a 3/5th majority.

I’ve been told by others that the one-gun-a-month won’t be called. Instead the gun control folks are calling the state licensing bill, which garnered only 51 of 60 votes needed and should be dead, and the instant background check for private sales of handguns bill, which got 58 of the needed 60 and will be back this week. Once again, this $2 background check doesn’t strike me as particularly oppressive when we’re finding out if the prospective buyer has a recent conviction or stay in a mental institution.

Just about what we figured. BUT I wish we were forcing a vote anyway--I don't understand the logic of folding up and going home if the votes aren't there. Well, I guess I do, but I disagree. I'd like to have people who voted against CCW getting hammered at town meetings over it.

Update:

Today, May 3, 2007 is the posted deadline for any action on HB1304 the Family and Personal Protection Act. This Right to Carry for personal protection bill has made it through First Reading, passed its committee hearing, made it through Second Reading and is ready for Third Reading and a vote. Because the Speaker of the House will invoke the 3/5's majority rule there is probably not enough votes to get it passed.

But several Second Amendment grassroots groups would like to at least see a floor vote on this bill - with the purpose of putting our representatives on the line and making public their support (or lack thereof) of our right to carry like law-abiding folks in the 48 states that do recognize that right. An up or down vote on this bill will also determine who we need to campaign for and against in the next election.

HB1304 can only be called for a vote if the sponsor, Rep. John Bradley, calls it for a vote. Thinking he does not have the votes necessary for passage he may not see the same importance that we do in getting a vote on the record.

Please call Rep. John Bradley's Springfield office (217) 782-1051 this morning between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and politely request a vote on HB1304 Family and Personal Protection Act.

Please call Mr. Bradley.

I honestly don't care if it passes as long as he's going to call the thing and people will have to vote on it. If it passes, you'll be able to knock me over with a feather.

If it passes the House, I'll do the metric at the Capital City Century. That's 63 miles on the bike in one day.
If it passes both houses, I'll do the full 100 miles. GLADLY.

But I don't see that happening this year.
