I am new at this and need help understanding the CCW process.

I spend most of my time in LA and OC. Where can or should I apply for the CCW?

The nature of my business I get jobs all over Southern CA. If I find a job in a differnt county I will move there until the next job. How does this affect the CCW license?

Right now I am in LA, but that might not last long.

I am just looking for the best and legal way to get a CCW and keep it.:uhoh:

Your legal residence for this purpose would most likely be the county in which you are registered to vote. If that is the same as the current address, use it in your application.

After the license is issued, you are then required to inform the issuing agency of any change of address.

I'm not sure about carry permits, but when I bought my last gun I called the ATF to ask which address to put on form 4473 since I have two of them. I was told that I have dual residency and could use either. I think it is ok as long as they are both in the same state.

In California, it's legal to be a resident of two different places at once (it's in the tax code somewhere). The CCW laws don't specify which of multiple addresses constitutes "the one that can score you CCW".

So: pick the best possible county, set up a residence address that does NOT involve a PO box, set up all your legal documents at that residence (driver's license, car registration, vote stuff, ETC.) and score CCW there.

Of the counties you've named so far, OC is best. The sheriff there is under investigation for, among other things, showing favoritism in CCW issuance. That aside, he tended to do a lot of permits regardless and is publicly pro-NRA, pro-CCW (but very likely corrupt as hell, sad to say).

What this adds up to is, he's not going to want to do favoritism in access right now so this is actually a good time to apply. Put down the best "good cause statement" you can think up (short of outright lying).

NOTE: Sheriffs and police chiefs universally hate this idea of "picking the best residency county" so leave no trace around that you don't spend 100% of your time at the address where you're applying for CCW.

timL, orange County is a better place to apply for a Ca. CCW permit than Los Angeles county. But you must be a legal resident (primary resident) of that county!
The "get a CCW in an easy county and move to another" game has been tried before and is known about. That will not fool anyone and you may get more attention than you want.

Suggest you also read and familiarize yourself with California Penal Code 12020 through12050 to avoid getting yourself in trouble. Your questions made in all the forums you posted sounded like you are trying to find ways to skirt the law. Very simple, it aint gonna work and you will get caught.

They will check up on your residency, if they don't catch you the first time they might on your renewal.

The law is very specific about your residence and if you change residence you must notify them within 10 days.

Don't lie....
