I may be moving to CA soon. If I do I will be living in the Chatsworth/Simi Valley area. Packing.org says that Simi valley is practically "shall issue" and LA county might be liberalizing their CCW permit issuance. It is silent on Ventura county.

What is the scoop on current CCW for L.A and Ventura counties? Is it possible? What can I expect? How much will it cost?

Thanks!

Did Hell freeze over? Unless you plan on contributing a few million dollars to the sherrif's campaign fund, forget about LA County.

I was just talking to a board member that said he lives in Ventura and they are ok about the process. You have to put down a good reason.

When I lived in The Peoples Republic of California about 5 years ago, it was damn near impossible to get a CCW as a private citizen.
It depends on which county you live in. I live in Kern County and I got my permit when I was 22 years old and my occupation was a substitute teacher (at the time I didn't teach in prison). Kern County yes. LA County NO! Ventura and Orange County you have a decent chance.

Would you ask him what constitutes a "good reason?" In Indiana personal protection qualified. In Florida they don't even ask.

Thanks!

If you work in corrections is a good one. If you own your own business that is a good one. If you work for a company and you have to transport expensive goods, payroll, or personnel through bad neighborhoods. Simple "self-defense" will probably not qualify. Feel free to extrapolate your duties if you need to.

He asked me what reason I put so I don't think he will be able to help you much. I said I work for this boys camp over the summers and that I transported personnel, payroll, and supplies between my house in Kern County, the camp in remote Tulare County, the headquarters in Valencia, and to pick up points in South Central, Long Beach, Ventura, Santa Ana, and Santa Maria. I guess it was good enough.

I don't work my summers there as much anymore now that I have a full time job, but the camp is still listed on my permit. Plus I work at a Federal Prison so I know that is a good enough reason in Kern County too.
