CCW permit renew delays?

I'm in Virginia and it used to take 10 days before I submitted the renew app and actually received my permit. It now has been 30 days and nothing. Anyone else experiencing delays?

Give them a call. Things *do* get mishandled in the mail, ya know. Or perhaps your state allows for an online check of status?

Could bet that like Arizona, the issuing agency in VA is getting unexpectedly heavy traffic in applications and is simply understaffed to handle the sudden increase in traffic. Issue time for new permits in AZ have gone from two or three weeks to just under 90 days.

According to state law, Virginia MUST issue your permit (if you meet the requirements - VA is a "shall issue state") within 45 days after you apply.

You should receive a call from the clerk's office to let you know when it is ready. However, after 30-40 days or so, I would call them myself to check and see if it is ready.

I am also in Southwest Virginia - and a few years ago, some local circuit court employees and judges had to have their memories jogged about what their responsibilities were.

If it has been over 45 days and the clerk's office is telling you your permit is still not ready, send me an IM.

I can check it online, and it has been recorded. It looks like the judge has not been able to get to it as of yet. I am in a small town and just surprised at the wait time on these. I guess there are many applying for them.

Permits are getting delayed everywhere due to the increased demand. Texas went from 30 days to about 90 for example.

Um, I called the circuit court and they said that the judge has been out for a couple of weeks.....


Uh, okay.....so I guess I'm screwed.

A friend at work has been waiting 90 days already. It took mine 30 days back two years ago. He called the state police office today and was told they were way backlogged still and that it would be another 30 to 45 days.

I am in the same boat, been waiting 56 days now for my permit, and was told that the judge usually waits 60 plus days to sign off on it. Southwest Virginia judges seem to think that they can do what they want, and do!

I dont know about new applications, but in NC my renewal went through in about a month and two weeks.

I asked my wife to mail the disclosure forms over my visor. A month later, I found the disclosure forms over my visor...
