Hey all-

I have a colleague that is looking to sell his k98 that was rechambered to 7.62x39 and fitted with a sporter stock. I wasn't really in the market but the 7.62x39 conversion has me intrigued. The conversion was allegedly done by Century though so that has me a little concerned.

So, do any of you guys here have any experience with them and what are they worth? He's supposed to get back to me with a price tomorrow. I think I'd really only be interested in it if it was a deal (couple hundred bucks maybe?) Here's a pic. Appears to be in nice shape.

Thanks as always.

It looks like a clean sportized gun, but i'd skip it unless its near free. At least under $200.

To get a K98 to shoot 7.62x39, you'd have to rebarrel, and redo the bolt face, extractor, block in the mag, etc. ...and, quite frankly, without a first hand shooting inspection, since Century did that work, I'd pass. They import guns fine, but the ones they assemble and mess with have a solid reputation for issues.

I agree. I've been looking for a cheap bolt gun in 7.62x39 but the work involved and it being done by a company with some mixed reviews on their workmanship has me concerned.

My coworker is struggling coming up with a price. I'll hit him around $150 and see. For that price I think it may be worth the gamble. Much more and I'm not sure.

Thanks desidog.

I've owned a Century-gunsmithed Mauser, rechambered in 308. They screwed the barrel on crooked.

Seriously.

Go with your colleague to the range and shoot it. It should be a fun rifle if it shoots well.

BTW, my father went to Hiram:)

That's scary right there...and my fear about most Century builds.

Snorko: That's funny that your dad is a terrier (mascot). Small world.
