One of the local gunshop has a couple of AK 47 made by Century Arms.
Price is $350 for regular stock, and $385 for folding stock.

I am thinking about buying the regular stock version just for the heck of it.

My question is this.

What kind of quality is Century Arms AK?
Would you recommend them?

Thanks

Century Arms assembles parts kits on locally made recievers. You will find canted gas blacks, sight assemblies, out of spec recievers, etc. If your rifle was made on a Monday morning, or Friday afternoon, the drunken monkeys at Century probably hashed it.
Hit and miss on quality, more miss than hit. Get a VEPR.

Hit or miss, but there are things you can do to try to select one that won't have to be taken back.

Try to get the fixed stock Yugo they have now. Bring a long metal rule or rod and lay it from the front sight back to the rear sight and then look along the length of the rod to make sure that the gas block and sights all line up with the barrel. Get a gurantee from the shop that if it doesn't function properly out of the box you can bring it back for exchange OR refund without any hassle. Some times timing and head space are a little off and you don't want to end up with a gun that won't run.

I believe Correia reported that Vepr's might become available again toward the end of the year. Saiga's and Vector Arms are supposed to be good also.

I think mine may have been assebled by them and I'm quite happy with it. Just look it over carefully paying attention to the front sight post making sure it isnt tilted and if it looks good get it. I've never seen an AK jam and they're usually a pretty safe buy regardless of orign. Mine sight post is a little canted but it doesnt bother me in the least it just runs.

I like my SAR-1:

Everything is on straight, and it's 100% reliable. Trigger pull is decent, a hint of slap when the rifle is hot, but otherwise not too bad. Currently imported Century AK lookalikes use Tapco G2 trigger groups, if I'm not mistaken, which are supposed to be quite good.

Some people slam on Century-imported rifles because the fit and finish isn't as good as the Russian-made guns, but the Romanian AK lookalikes are just as functional as a Vepr, and are lighter to boot. No, they don't look as nice, and they will be a bit less accurate, but IMHO they are the best self-loading rifle you can buy for $350.

As far as the standard stock vs. the folder, I personally don't like most of the folders that are available for AK lookalikes. There are some U.S. manufactured stocks and adapters that might be OK, but a lot of the European stocks strike me as clanky and uncomfortable.
