I've been interested in getting a "real" HK G3 rifle for many years but never had the money. Now I'm seeing the Cetme and a HK G3 "type" rifle available from Century Arms for an affordable price.

The question is... Which one is better or is there really any difference? I'm leaning toward the G3 "type" because I've heard a fair amount of negative feedback about the quality of the cetme - if you don't visually inspect the one you get first. The price is about $200 higher for the G3. Century Arms claims that the rifle is all original G3 parts except for the new reciever. They are also saying that is factory refinished and has new furniture. It sounds really good but...

Thanks for the feedback.

I own the CETME and it turned out to be a reliable shooter.

With Century, all their products seem hit and miss. Some are good shooters, some are complete junk that may need time and money to get running right.

I can't speak on the G3 other than when I did my research a while back I left with the impression I should go for the CETME. If you look over at:

http://www.gunboards.com/forums/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Headlines&BID=30

you will find plenty of useful info on the CETME.

It really all boils down to what you want to spend and how big of a chance you are willing to take. At $300.00 you won't find any other .308 battle rifle. In most cases it won't lose its value, and I plan to move up to an original at some point. With a couple of hundred more you can get the century G3. A couple hundred beyond that you are approaching prices on originals.

You will get some replies that say both are complete junk and don't waste your money, but both are relative statements.

Hope this helps.
