Chamber Cleaning ???

I use a stiff bristled pistol brush on the end of a drill. Turn the rifle upside down, a little squirt of CLP in the chamber, wait a few minutes, a little spray on the brush, insert and turn on the drill. Then I wipe clean with a shotgun swab. I do this every 2-3 trips to the range.

Often neglected and very necessary on most guns. Get a caliber specific chamber brush from Midway or Brownells. I have dozens and use them at every cleaning. Ymmv.

I wrap a large CLP soaked patch around a pistol bore brush of the appropriate size, and put it on a pistol cleaning rod, spin it around a few times and cAll it good.

If I don't have straight access to the chamber, like with a M1, m1A, mini, I put a large clp soaked patch in a GI patch " jag", pull it into the chamber from the muzzle, and spin it around a few times.

I clean the chamber on every centerfire rifle every time after it has been fired, and before it is put away.

I consider this most critical for semi automatic mechanisms as friction between the case and the chamber is undesirable and as the amount of friction between case and chamber increases, the probability of a failure to extract increases. An ideal situation is one where there are no friction forces on the case during extraction. As my semi automatics are shot in NRA highpower competitions, I do not want alibis to ruin my score.

For my match AR15's, I have bought GI chamber brushes and aftermarket chamber rods upon which to mount them. For Garands/M1a's, I use GI chamber brushes. For bolt rifles, for those bolt rifles based around 308 sized cases, I use 45 caliber blackpowder copper bristle brushes mounted on cleaning rod sections.

I apologize, I should have been more clear - the chamber of a Center-Fire bolt rifle. I have .223, .308 and 300 WSM. For the first time I noticed how dirty the chamber has been. I only clean with a proper guide.

Are there chamber brushes for this purpose? Caliber / case size specific?

Thanks for all the feedback.

Whenever I buy a mosin...

I make sure to give it "the treatment!"

Which is awesome by the way. Most Mosin chambers are full of gunk, cosmosline, and general crap.. So what I do is I take a 20 ga shotgun barrel brush and I put it on a cleaning rod, Stick the cleaning rod into my 36v dewalt drill and go to TOWN!. Its hilarious.... cleans it real good. No damage done if you use a light brush, just clean, happy chambers..
