Charter Off Duty

Charter Arms had some rough periods. I think it was in the 1990's, I called and Charter Arms had been sold. The lady on the phone said the former Plant Manager had been incentivized to make lots of parts, but the financial incentives were not about complete guns. So the factory had plies of in process parts. That is bad, because if the in process parts had defects, they likely got into production, and would likely get back into production with the new owners. I think it was then, Charter Arms had glued on barrel shrouds, and they came unglued.

Overall, the original designs were made for fast manufacturing. Properly built Charter Arms pistols will work, and if a reloader puts +P rounds in the things, given enough rounds the non +P Charter Arms will blow the barrel and crack the barrel end.

Duh.

At one time .. Charter Arms produced revolvers with aluminum barrel shrouds .. I actually owned a 357 Mag with a 4 inch barrel that had a aluminum shroud… was a great revolver that was lightweight and shot well … I really don’t think the shroud was glued on …but nuthin surprises me
At one time Charter Arms was sold to a company named Charco .. and they did produce revolvers that had QC issues 92-96 was the years ..

With the back and forth hate between Charter and Smith, I'll just further stir the pot and say MY small frame wheelie is an Interarms Rossi 885. ;)

I have to admit that my recent experience with newly made Charter Arms revolvers makes me look at Taurus revolvers as a much higher grade handgun for similar money.

Do all current production off duty 38s have a misshapen forcing cone at 6 o'clock?

Hi all
I have had several over the years with no problems.
Never had a charco or 2000, or a newer one.
YMMV
Same here except I did have problems with each and every one of them. The problem was someone always wanted them more than I did.;) I would buy a new CA in a heartbeat, if I was looking for another small revolver, or just found a good deal on one.
