Is the price of 7.62x39 going up? I called my usual supplier (Outdoor-Source) to order a few cases of various calibers and was told they were out of 7.62x39 due to Wolf's contract to supply the Iraqi military. I checked several other suppliers and the only one that had Wolf in stock had it marked @ $94.99 per 1,000 round case (+shipping, of course). I bought a case 6 months ago for $69. Does anybody know of a cheaper deal? Help, please. I don't want my SKSs to get hungry.

I don't know about the Wolf contract. However, with gas prices up I would expect the cost or transportation to impact ammo sooner or later.

When you think about how much it weighs I think we could see a hefty price increase just due to shipping.

The Iraqi army is getting Wolf? That doesn't sound right. This is our government that is fitting the bill. Wolf is cheap, reliable and very functional for the money. That sounds like the government is doing sound investment with the taxpayers money and we all know that ain't right. :neener:

I just got an AK so I just started looking for 7.62x39 so don't really know what the prices were, but alot of places seem to be sold out. Jim.

Yep, last gunshow I went to Wolf 7.62x39 had gone from $75/1000 to $119/1000 now. The funny thing is that every other caliber was the same cheap price as before, Wolf 9mm, .40, .223, and 5.45x39 were all the exact same price as before, cheaper than 7.62x39 even!!!!

7.62x39 is definitely thinning out. From what I understand, the Russians aren't shipping over as much as they used to. Iraq could well be the cause of some of that, but who knows what the true reasons are. I don't think Iraq would be using up that much of the stuff.

for the sake of finding a positive in this situation, at least i now have something of a reason to get into another intermediate caliber. 5.56 here i come! granted yes, it is absurd to spend a whole lot on a new gun to save a couple cents per round, but any reason is a good reason.

every gun show dealer is reading these threads and going "hmmm, I think maybe I can make an extra few bucks on the 7.62....."

The current Dunham's Sporting goods sales flyer has wolf 7.62x39 for 2 boxes for $5 thats 40 rounds for $5...so that makes it hmmmmmmmm

400 rounds for $50
800 rounds for $100

Last time I bought a bunch of Wolf 7.62x39 it was 500 rounds for $50 (September 2004), so it has gone up a bit.

I've noticed most other ammo is also about $1/50 higher than Sept 2004, too.

Blazer Brass in .45ACP was $10/50 last year, now $11/50. .40 & 9Milly is also up about the same amount.

Darn it, that reminds me!

I need to fire up the Dillon again, I'm getting low on 7.62x39. ;)
