A friend of mine's uncle stocked up on lots of things during the y2k scare, including guns and ammo. I don't know exactly how much he had originally, but ten years later, I understand he has something in the neighborhood of 30,000 rounds of 7.62x39, so I'd assume he had a lot more. Lucky SOB. :) He is willing to part with some of it, and The price he gave me was $200 per 1,000 rounds. I'm not sure of the brand, but I'm willing to bet it's either wolf, or surplus.

Are there any better deals to be had, or should I just jump on this?

That's a good deal -- even for Wolf ammo. I would find out what it is first, but that sounds like a good source

My money situation sucks right now. I am selling my guitar amp head and buying a less expensive one just so I can afford this. I'd buy all of it if I had the cash.

Probably 50% to 100% more than he paid and 30% to 50% less than you would have to pay elsewhere.

Yes, a good deal.

280-300 is going rate right now without shipping which can run between 20-40 dollars a case depending on where you live. I sold a few cases a couple of weeks ago for 290-300. Sounds like you are getting a pretty good deal. Rg

its a great deal.

that is almost as thrifty as reloading.

i remember the good ole days when you could buy 1000 pmc 5.56 for about that much.

those days are long gone so now i reload and that price is close to what the components alone would be.

Since there hasn't been any dissent yet..... You are getting a decent deal if you consider the current price bubble to be normal. In my estimation it's not a great deal to stretch for and you will probably regret selling a durable good to finance an expendable commodity. Just prior to the election you could order brand new ammunition all day long for $180/1k. It's well above that level right now but the sad state of the US economy seems to be rapidly catching up with the guns/ammo market and I believe it will be down to $200/1K in a couple months. Unless you really believe that zombies are going to be overrunning the cities in that time my suggestion would be to wait and put the money together before buying. If nothing else see how long your friend's uncle might be willing to sell this ammo for at that price.

Eh.... I bought a bunch of Barnaul last October for $150/1k. Did pay $169/1K for some of that Wolf hollow point, shipping is only around $15 or 20 if I remember correctly. It was at $179/1k for a long long time at AIM up until the election rush.

you might even consider borrowing money to buy it

I will give you 5000 rounds of 7.62x39 for one of your kidneys. Seriously, will pay shipping myself.

marktx, I totally see your point about selling the amp, but this ammunition isn't going into a stockpile. It will almost assuredly be shot in a few weeks time. Plus, I am selling the amp at a profit, and I have another one lined up to purchase locally for a good deal. I still hate to have to resort to using a one-time/finite income source, the sale of a valuable possession in this case, to purchase something consumable like ammunition, but shooting has become a priority, and major part of my time, effort, and budget. Especially now that I have turned most of my band mates/musician friends into avid gun enthusiasts/shooters(we are the only right wing conservative pop punk band I've ever known to exist ;)). I went from shooting once every other week or so, to multiple times a week, or as often as I can afford it, which is no problem with me, except for the fact that it gets very expensive very quickly. Plus, since my recording studio is my only source of income, I don't know when, or how much money I will be making in advance, so that basically makes it impossible to set any real budget, and I often end up spending more than I should.

It's hard to say no when a friend calls you on a nice day when you aren't busy and asks if you want to go shooting. For the past month or so, this has happened 2-3 days a week. This makes it hard to put enough money back to buy in enough quantity to save money, so I am trying to find the cheapest ammunition I possibly can, without getting into back ordering, etc., and if this is the best I'll most likely find, I'll go with it.

And to whoever mentioned buying more, and selling it at a small profit, I would be doing this if I knew anyone locally who had a gun that takes it, but I don't. If anyone on here lives within driving distance of Altoona/Blair county, PA, I'd be glad to hook you up. Just drop me a PM.

This has to be a put on.... So you are selling your amp, which is presumably part of your recording studio which provides your income so you can shoot this ammo up in a couple weeks? I guess you didn't say that you were the first pop punk band that is into being financially intelligent. You should strongly consider putting a little more thought into planning things out. What will you do in a couple weeks when this ammo is shot up? Sell this other Amp to buy some more?

cauberallies- I switched to Roland/Boss modeling gear and I've never looked back. (Boss GT series, Roland VG series.)

Yesterday I was in Walmart, and they had two boxes of WWB 7.62x39 for $14 each, and I had the angel/devil talk with myself for two minutes before I walked away.

I am not selling this amp specifically for money for ammunition. The amp I have now, a Marshall JCM200 DSL 100, was the only decent used amp I could find locally on such short notice after my former amp was stolen, as I needed one for upcoming shows. I don't really like the Marshall, I have someone willing to buy it off me for more than what I paid for it, and I also found a great deal locally on the amp I wanted in the first place(a Peavey 6505+). I wouldn't be able to afford the ammunition without the money left over from the amp deal, but I wouldn't be selling the amp it if I wasn't getting this price, or if I didn't also find a good deal on the amp I really want. This isn't like selling your personal possessions to fund an addiction or anything like that. It just all fell into place like this. I guess my wording in that post wasn't the greatest. Yeah, the deal on this ammo is definitely an incentive, and it is what made me look into selling my amp and buying a new one, but I wouldn't be doing it if the situation was not what it is. Hope that clears it up.
