I'm down to half a box of Wolf .45 ACP ammo, and I need some more. Yet, wolf smells horrible and turns my nice stainless revolver black as night. Anyone know of any other cheap practice ammo like wolf? I can't seem to find anything as cheap as it. 79 dollars for 500 is pretty danged good.

WWB at WW is about $20/100. Some don't like it, but I've never had problems with it. Not quite as good as the $80/500 you get with the Wolf ammo, but I can find the WWB ammo readily, the Wolf ammo, not so much.

I got a "Mega-Pack" of 250 rounds of UMC at Walmart for $45 in NH. That's the cheapest reloadable non-stank ammo that I've found. Dick's had some really bad mixed headstamp reloads (200gr Lead Semi-wadcutters) for about the same price but I chrono'ed some of them and they were all over the map (780-930 fps from the same box). If you can find reliable (but stinky) ammo for $79/500, buy it all.

Best I've found for non-Wolf is $9.98 a box for American Eagle 230 gr. FMJ. It shoots great out of my Commander.

I shoot the WWB, because it is reloadable and you couldn't reproduce the stuff yourself with new Winchester components for only $20/100 rounds. I kept all my brass over the last year and just bought an RCBS reloader. Two nights ago, Missashot and I have just finished reloading our 500th round (about $10/100 with our saved brass), and the first 300 rounds functioned flawlessly and quite accurately. Before that, I occasionally bought the cheapo Wolf and Silver Bear ammo. I want to say I liked the Silver Bear better than the Wolf ammo, but one of my Colts doesn't like steel cased ammo of any brand....but that was before the new extractor. My other two Colts didn't care what it was (I've never tried any steel-cased ammo in my newest Colt nor my RIA 1911A1). For me, especially now, I'm reloading, and if I ever need more brass, I'll just buy the WWB and save the brass.

I agree with two of the posters above. I buy the WWB from Wallmart for abut $20 per 100 whenever I run low on ammo for a quick trip to the range (Even though I hate Wallmart). I usually try to stock up on the Blazer Brass from Natchezss.com . This is the best deal for good practice ammo I have been able to find. Even with shipping it will work out to be about 10% less the Wallmart. I have seen the ammo on sale for as little as 7.69 per 50.

Using hard commercial 200gr LSWC, my loading costs are $7.60 per 100 so $20 for 100 WWB doesn't seem like a deal. If you shoot much 45 auto, you should look into reloading to save money (or get more shooting for the same cost).

Get used to the stink and buy some extra patches and Hoppe's. You can barely load your own for that kind of money.

Baloney. I can load 1000 rounds of .45ACP under 4.6gr of bullseye with plated 230gr RN bullets for about $90. That's just about half of the Wolf load costs, it's much cleaner burning, and more consistent/accurate as well.

Yet, I have no way of reloading. I have no tools, no experience, and no time. Buying the ammo is a better way for me, right now.

Get a shooting buddy to reload or let you use his reloading equipment. Ive let a couple of friends reload ammo on my equipment. Heck if there over there BS-ing anyway, might as well crank out some ammo. That is one of the benifits of shooting ammo that you can reload. Save that brass, at least if you dont relolad it you can sell it.

For eleven dollars more you can get UMC ammo. Lots cleaner , thats what it was at last show I attended 90.00 for 500

My father's friend reloads all his ammo, I might be able to swipe some stuff from him for a decent price.
