Cheap shotgun?

I'm another one with the 500 for an HD shotgun. Mines over 20 years old and its one of my house guns, its reliable and has never had a failure.
No children in the house anymore. Hangs in the bedroom, out of sight on the side of the bookcase and in a scabbard, next to my side of the bed.
When we're home, its always on the side of that bookcase, when were not home, it goes in the safe.

When I worked at a place that sold them back in the 60's, I was never impressed with Mossberg shotguns. I bought a lightly used Maverick 88 Security a few days ago and must admit I am impressed. It is inexpensive, reliable, and does the job handily. Its presence on the used rack at LGS is an indication that they are likely becoming more readily available. They have been around long enough that they are a known quantity with good support, and they are made in Texas.

While some Turkish guns are no doubt fine, we don't have the history to assess their durability or support. The shortage has probably been a windfall for producers of guns that would otherwise not do well in the market. Time will tell.

Walked into my local LGS and was pointed to a Hatsan Escort 12 g shotgun. He said he got a special deal on them and is selling them for $175.
I said, "yeah, then add tax and background check." Nope $175 OTD.
It shoots just fine and can take 3 inch shells and slugs. The pump action is smooth and the trigger is one of the best I have felt, crisp and clean.
So far so good with no unintended explosions.
I hooked up 2 other people to this gun and they love it.

Don't be fooled, a Mossy 500 is a strong shotgun even with all that plastic.
Heck, it was good enough for Navy Seals and LE agencies across the country.
I wouldn't turn up my nose at a Mooseberg. They also have a long tradition of excellent factory support,
Cheaper imports? I'll pass.
