Hi all - the little Docter Optics red dot sure is a great thing to have as an extra on a gun that's already got some glass on it. Lots of folks mount them offset at 45 degrees, simply tilting the gun and being able to use the tiny red dot for close range shooting. Jerry Miculek does this quite often with his ARs.

I'd love to have a similar setup for a gun I'm building - it will have a 6x scope on top, but I'd love the ability to have a close-range reflex sight. Problem is I hate to spend $400 on such a minor part of the big picture; anybody have any suggestions for something small and light like the Docter unit that is a bit more reasonable?

I suppose some sort of offset mount with a small red dot would do the same thing...I just hate to add the bulk of a conventional, big-ol' red dot sight to an otherwise high-speed, low-drag stick.

After a little searching, here's a link directly to a pic of ol' Jerry using that cute little sight. I guess this setup is pretty common in 3-gun stuff.

Thanks, all.
