Cheaper of two evils: Fedex or UPS?

I know that some people are able to ship guns thru their dealer using the USPS, but my dealer says he cannot. So ignoring all other issues regarding Fedex and UPS (and there seem to be many! ), which is generally cheaper for overnight shipping of a handgun to an out of state FFL - Fedex or UPS? Thank you.

Fedex use to be more expensive for Overnight but UPS has caught up in rates over the past few years. Both are comparable. The rate is based on weight and the distance the package is traveling.

Around here (North Texas) my experience has been that they are equally odius and incompetent.

Since my FFL will ship for me, I no longer have to deal with it.

When I did, I learned to print out pages fronm their websites, because their personnel (to include those you contact on the phone) will more than likely be ignorant, incompetent and well-less-than-worthless.

Note to any FEDEX/UPS employees on THR: no offense intended, but if the shoe fits, and it does...

It is less expensive to ship with both UPS and Fedex when you have an account with them rather than going to one of their mainhubs. You can register for both online free. No charge at all to setup an account.

They are both total rip offs. I have paid $35.00 top $50.00 before I found a better way.

Find an FFL who will take your pistol to the Post Office for $20.00. Postage going priority insured is rarely more than $10.00

Thats what I do.

You can ship a rifle to an FFL via the Post Office without having an FFL take it to the post office. Hand guns must go FFL to FFL through the Post Office.

NOt sure about cheaper, but I feel the lessor of the two evils is FedEx.

recently I had to ship a non gun package overnight. Fedex was $75.00. I then found that FedEx was only $29.99. I'll go FedEx. Just put it in the box, carry it in, and tell them you want to ship it, insure it for what you want. Ask me how I know - I have not shipped a gun. I think mine is worse. I shipped some live snakes.

Forget about cheaper. I can't imagine the variation would be more than a few bucks. My 18 year old brother in law works part time for a UPS store. I get horror stories all the time about them losing packages and their corporate policy on tracking and replacing lost items.

I think there have been several threads on THR detailing problems High Roaders have had with UPS.

Lesser of two evils IMO is FedEx.

FedEx. Stuff tends to arrive in one piece.

I think UPS considers it a challenge to smash the boxes.

How much does fedex/ups charge for shipping a rifle? Are thaey any cheaper/better than the post office.

First thing you do is find a new dealer.
Of course he can ship USPS it as long as it's FFL to FFL.

I've been able to walk into a Fedex facilty and second day a pistol back for repair. Guy didn't seem too concerned about their silly overnight rules and it saved me some money.

Try asking for it - the worst they can say is "no".
