will it never end

Not until we have another Vice President of the United States who shoots a man in the face, then makes that man get on national TV and apologize for getting in the way of the VP's gunfire.

Dick Cheney shot from a distance that you'd have absolutely no reason to shoot in any imaginable H.D. circumstance so, tell me again, WHY did you even use that as an example??

How can you change the O.P's items to something that he ISN'T using (namely "buckshot") and then get all high & mighty about what he's doing is wrong?!? Don't you get it? He isn't doing what you're belittling him for!

First - Dick Cheney shot a man in the face... not in the body, which would have to go through 2 layers of clothing and a layer of fat before the pellets even get to the vitals. The man survived a direct, unimpeded shot to exposed skin. I suspect that bird shot slows down even faster in a solid medium than in a gaseous one, say like air. How far was that shot again??? I can see and shoot completely across my house.. which is 25y give or take a couple. If it isn't lethal as a head shot, it won't be as a body shot.

As to the buckshot, it is what I feel to be the minimum defense load for shotguns. I did not belittle him, I said I was not able to handle what he bought and hinted that if he bought the birdshot for home defense, that it generally isn't considered up to the task. If you have many doubts... there are many places to get that tested. I believe that there is a forum member that does ballistic gelatin testing. I don't have any birdshot around the house to send him... feel free to send him some of yours if you would like to see how it does. I believe that box-of-truth also tested it and found it lacking, but I could be wrong. I use something a bit heavier for HD.

I read Cheney hit him from 30 yards so I got my shotgun out and tested what a load of bird shot from a 28 guage will do to a paint can at 30 yards. I blew the crap out of the can. I think the victim is lucky to be alive.

Hey its your money, buy what you want if something doesn't work for you then change it back and through it in the safe .Have fun there your guns.

The Beta C magazines become unreliable after the feed tower wears out. It doesn't take a whole lot of shooting to do that, either.
Unless he's shooting a full auto, I wouldn't worry about it. That relatively cheap (and big) "drum" magazine he got is at least a few rungs below the level of a beta C-mag and I wouldn't trust it after 500 rounds or 6 months of use. If government trusts beta C-mags, that's worth something.

I made the mistake of getting a clumsy bandolier like that. You may find that the shells don't stay in securely. In fact, I see one of your shells starting to slip out, probably from just light handling. If you really think about a fluid self-defense situation, you might come to the realization that a simple bag around your neck/waist is more practical than a bandolier. Bandoliers look cool though.

I'm going to have to disagree with everything you're saying here. Granted your experiences with your own bandoleer may have been different, but with the one I got the shells stay in place perfectly. I can swing the bandoleer around like a helicopter and still not looses shells. I find it far from clumsy and very practical, it's not heavy at all and gives easy access to the shells for quick reloading. I also like that it can be carried hands free.

I just got a KCI 100round drum ( a beta knock off) made in korea. sportsmans guide has them, all tho i got mine from Botachtical. It ran 100 rounds of federal brass cased no problems, and another 65 or so of wolf. A friend was loading it and jammed up the feed string. I took it apart and put it together and it seems to be fine, but i havent shot it again yet.

Still tho i would recommend one.

I have c-products 40 rnd stainless steel mags they work ok, but dont seem to feed right the first couple of rounds. then run good after that.

One of the best additions iv got, I have to say is a cmmg .22 conversion. I had alot of fun with that today. and got to shoot extremely cheep.

20 round mags.

I am surprised no one has mentioned 20 rnd mags. They get you closer to the ground while shooting prone. If in a firefight you might want to minimize your profile. Just a thought.

I don't see a problem with the pistol grip. i put one on mine and cut the barrel down just the same for HD. I have a bad shoulder and can't take the beating. Went skeet shooting one day, could'nt use my arm for three days. Even with vicodin. And I was 30 at the time.
The pistol grip works fine for me. I made my own grip with a "butt" on it to keep it the minimum required 26 inches. So I am able to brace it against my abs if I need to. It's perfect.

Laser - if it is adjustable and holds its point of aim/adjustment - then it is a great practice tool for both dry and live fire. Also depending on the situation it can be usefull in self-defense - in low light - you just have to learn to use them the right way - too many people either adjust them the wrong way and/or try to aim by pointing the gun and looking for the dot - instead of using their sights and seeing the dot right there.

Personally don't like pistol grips on shotguns but your milage may vary.

You can never have too many mags or speedloaders.

If you like the bandolier - you might like the shell retainers that fit on the shotgun too.

Personally, nothing wrong with trying new things - that is the way we learn what works - and what works best for one person may not work best for another - depending on personal ability, training, and aptitude.

Not a fan of the birdshot - it can be very lethal - especially at room distances with someone in the open and wearing light clothing - but any intervening materials or objects that would be concealment for heavier loads may become cover - especailly in combination with heavy clothing - leather - etc... can make it much less effective.

Looks like you had fun - enjoy.

90round drum! looks nice :)

p.s dont let people bug you about your choice of ammo/federal bulk. Nice upgrades. I like bandoliers too! :p

Other note, do not get afended by mall ninja word, your gear is good. That is why they make it! if it was forbiden then mall ninja websites would only sell bandoliers :D

Dont feel so bad I got a bandolier too. ;) well its a belt, but still counts.

"BTW, a pistol grip was the only way I could comfortably shoot my 12 gauge pump. Plenty accurate with it too. I'm way too bony to take it on the shoulder more than a couple times. I'd wear a pair of those recoil absorbing gloves and go through 100 rounds with no problem though. I've always wanted to try shooting skeet with it, don't think it'd be as hard as it sounds."

Let us know how this goes for you.

And please make sure your dental plan coverage is up to date.
FYI - I've tried it and it's much harder than it sounds, as for the question about how good of a shot I might be that is developing in your mind right now! I'm above average with my Mossberg 500 12ga. on skeet and even better with quail and pheasant in my sights.

Good for the OP for being a good sport and tolerating this thread.
Good for the OP for trying out accessories and culling the bad ones.
Bad on everyone who thinks weather and whether are interchangeable.
And best-o-luck to anyone who has convinced themself that low brass birdshot is a HD load.
