It would seem to me Skunk gets it.

He found a platform that works for him. He is confident in it. He wants multiple copies. You can't argue with that.

I'm a little more diverse.

Skunk probably did find a platform that works for him, however does that platform work in all circumstances? is such a platform versitle enough for CCW, home protection, hunting, punching paper, competitions etc? I'd like to be able to do all of those so I went for the diverse collection.

I don't want to come across as knocking anyone's choices. If it works for you, wonderful.

Here goes:

Long Guns:

1) Dreyse Needle Gun.
2) Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield
3) Snider Mk II
4) Remington Rolling Block Carbine, preferrably Spanish (.43 cal)
5) Winchester '73 Military Musket
6) Mle 1886 Lebel
7) Gew 88 Commission Rifle
8) M1891 Carcano Carbine
9) MAS 36
10) SMLE Mk V

Each of the above with bayonet, a small quantity of ammo for the rare birds, and plenty of clips for the Carcano.

Handguns:

1) S&W Model 51 3.5" RB
2) S&W Model 53 4"
3) S&W Model 58
4) S&W Model 21 4"
5) S&W Model 657 3"
6) S&W Model 940
7) S&W Model 547 3" RB
8) Les Baer TRS
9) Wilson CQB
10) A 5" 1911 built on an STI double-stack frame, caliber to be determined later, so the gun fairy can just bring me the frame for now. :uhoh:

Also, I'm assuming that the ten of each is all we'll ever get - no possibility of replacements, etc. Therefore, I'd better have "spares" of the most important weapons, so that if one is damaged or needing repair, I've got another one handy.

He didn't say that. Better yet, he didn't specify that the ten weren't to be added to the existing stockpile, so I just figured to fill twenty empty slots in the collection. :D

I think I could actually get by with 10 of each

Interestingly, most of the guns I can think of, I already own.

Long Guns:
M1 Garand, 308
STG-58 FAL mildly customized
BRNO #1, .22LR
AR-15 20" A2
AR-15 16" Midlength Carbine
M39 "Sneak"
91/59 Mosin Nagant Carbine
Romanian SKS
Mossberg 500 12Ga
AR-15 16" dedicated 22LR (the only long gun in the list that I don't own yet)

pistols:

CZ-75, 9mm
1911 Govt model (I'm happy with my custom Sistema)
1911, Colt CCO, 45ACP
S&W J frame, model 642, 38 Special
S&W N frame, 28-2, 357 mag.

(guns I don't have yet)
Ruger MK II, 22LR
S&W K frame, 38 Special
Ruger Vaquero .357 Mag.
CZ-97, 45ACP
S&W model 55 target, 45ACP

Ooh, this is fun -

handguns:

1. heavily suppressed .22

2.3. matched 9mm, probably Beretta 92 for my grip, one suppressed

45. matched 1911s, Ed Brown or such

6. 6" 629 (or maybe maybe a Roooger)

7. A Polish Radom VIS (9mm) (Poland is not yet dead)

8. P90 (5.7x28 AP doesn't make sense without bursts)

9. Bond Arms derringer in .45ACP

10. 1006 (10mm)

And the long guns - now we're having fun:

1. M16

2. AR-15, 24", suppressed, ACOG (yes, that's cumbersome)

3. FN FAL

4. .308 bolt action, CZ or better, night vision Gen.IV

5. .338 Lapua tac rig (big glass, heavy barrel)

6. .375 H&H iron sights (or Docter red dot), CZ or better bolt action

7. EDM .50BMG takedown bolt

8. Remington 870 with various barrels

9. Quad 30s (or 40s if I can mount them) with remote director, mounted on the roof of my house, or maybe on a half track

10. 155mm self-propelled (you did say "long"!)

Note that numbers 1-8 are all hunting arms! 9 and 10 are just for brag. (Of course I've made a few assumptions about availability and licensing - I can dream, eh?)

That was fun, thanks!

You see, I was assuming that you meant that you needed ten of each type of weapon in your safe. That would fit my situation perfectly if that was the case. Residing in the household there is myself, Mrs. L, & 3 assorted lowercase L's running around. That would give each of us one to shoot & one for spare parts

easily remedied.. lobby to make the rule "10 of each kind, PER household member" so each family member would have 10long guns and 10 handguns. i'm sure this was the REAL intent :D
