Setting up a mill to cut flats can take hours and once set up, it should not be taken down. The milling itself can take about two days and I doubt if the school will let me have it for 2 1/2 days for myself.
Later this year I may be able to score on a Bridgeport. My classmate wants to upgrade and is willing to sell me his. I'd have to get a digital read out for the X, Y and Z axis but that's easy.

Ya, I posted there. Good topic cannon. I do love the big guns but I would not say they are inherently more accurate. The civil war gun is a good example. That is only 15 lbs or so. The bench gun pictured is maybe 35? That is still less than half the weight of my 80lb slug gun.
I have a Fred Sinclair built inline, as posted here before that can hang with that big .62. It is maybe 8lbs?

Green Mountain barrels has a 50-110 barrel with a 1-24 twist octagon barrel for around $200 just cut off chamber and rethread for breech plug
