IMG_20161110_114908978_HDR.jpg Hello out there to any SKS aficionados, just got my first SKS,. Norinco. Have photos of markings and features. I know it's from factory 26,. But don't know the year of manufacture or model due to what appears to be an optics mount milled right into dust cover. Any and all help much appreciated

Optics mount was not stock. They sold them, Chinese made, as aftermarket accessories. Not the most stable mount.

Great rifle, lots of Utube videos on take down and cleaning.

Good luck with it!

Regret selling my really nice SKS in the 90s. I had a very smoothly machined one. Free-floating firing pin and soft Rem primers got "interesting" when it was freshly cleaned and lubed--back then I thought you had to clean a gun every time you shoot (now I clean if groups open up). There was nothing mechanically wrong with it and it was firing in battery (verified with detailed case measurements).

Looks like you have a fiberglass 'jungle' stock. While not really rare, they are not very common either. Your ser# has an importer mod to make up for a duplicate ser# someplace else. The '11' to the left and the 'I' to the right are added. The '16'(numbers 3/4) are the original 'first' two numbers of the manufacturer ser# - that's where your year of manufacture will be determined. The /26\ are the only Chinese SKS that can be reliably dated.

Go to the - http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php - to get lots more info.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in responding,. thanks for all the info. A "jungle stock"? , that explains the cheap appearance, almost like press board. If I switch it out for a tapco system, I won't toss it if it's a rarity. I will definitely make use of the links, thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info on the mount, wasn't going to trust it anyway. Planning on going the Tapco route on a new stock and will go with optics from there. Thanks again.

The jungle stock is fiberglass. The idea being that the humidity of the jungles of Viet Nam caused problems due to warping.

Dont toss that Jungle Stock. They are correct to that gun and only a small percentage of Chinese production had them.
