Hi all,
I am a Texas CHL holder but moved here from San Diego. There is a possibility that I will be moving my family back there in the not so distant future. I was wondering if any of you have information as to what cities in Cali are likely to grant concealed handgun licenses?

Thanks

Few cities in California issue CCW to 'ordinary' people.

The Calguns Foundation has a project to assist county Sheriffs to bring their issuing policies into conformance with state law; a few cities, for example Fresno, have also become somewhat less strict.

The County of Sacramento has recently become 'shall-issue'; the City of Sacramento has not followed. It's a work in progress.

See http://calgunsfoundation.org/index.php/resources/ccw-initiative and http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=116

Most of the nearly 40 million people in the state live in the Bay Area around San Francisco/Oakland, and the Los Angeles Basin, including Los Angeles county and the connected portions of nearby counties.

Both areas are predominantly no CCW for regular people.

The majority of the state that does allow CCW is made up of counties filled with National and State parks, and National forest.

Here is a generalized map that gets updated:

Do keep in mind it is still discretionary, and someone in one of the green 'shall issue' counties can still be denied over anything, for example a non-prohibiting misdemeanor if the Sheriff chooses.

The map is deceptive, giving the impression of huge CCW regions, but if you look at a map of California state parks, National Parks, and National forests etc

Here is a map of California, the land you can live on is the small amount of the lightest color that looks almost white, all the other colors are protected government lands:

Now compare that to Texas, that is almost all that color:
