I just got a used Choate +3 for my 870 mag express. Am I supposed to have a special plug for this? The seller sent an orange one that seems identical to the one in the shotgun. The 870's tube has two grooves at the end that won't allow the orange follower past it unless it's lines up with the two grooves. My extension isn't actually extending anything, cuz the follower won't push back into the extension to allow any extra rounds in. It just stops where it always has. How does this work? :banghead:

You have to remove the two indentions in the factory tube. The easiest way is to drill them out and deburr the holes. This will allow the shell follower to pass that area and allow more shells in the gun. Just make sure you remove them all the way, or the follower might push past it, and then not be able to return and feed the shells properly. This is specifically for the 870 Express, and should be covered in the instruction manual that came with the extension.

While that would work I have found if you get out your socket set and find one that just fit’s the tube then tap it into the indentions and float them out with a brass punch and small hammer then slide the socket back out. It only takes a minute and most everyone has tools that will work.
