Hi All,

Has anyone had trouble attaching the clamp on their Choate mag extension on an 870? The screw that attaches the clamp is too short and only gives me about one thread on the other end to attatch the nut.

I have a rem 870 express...nothing exotic. Choate said that they've had a few complaints about it, but they only have one length of screw.

Anyone have the same problem? Are there any other after-market clamp screws out there?

Thanks!

go over to your local hardware store.

take the screw with you and get one a quarter inch or an eighth longer- is nothing special about that screw, make sure you get the right threads(fine) and the right size.mine has a nut with it,just take the nut with you also and thread it on to make sure the threads are same.may cost you a total of 89 cents.its a regular "machine" screw and nut, nothing more

Do you have the clamp halves in proper orientation, and with the right "end" up?

The Choate clamp has one end of the clamp slightly larger to fit the extension, and the other end smaller to fit the barrel.

You have to make sure you've got both sides with the big end on the clamp and the small on the barrel.

If you get one side upside down, the screw isn't long enough.

Yep, it's in the right orientation.

Will any screw work? What about the swivel attachment for the sling?

Any machine thread screw will work.
Many people who have stripped or damaged screws use a machine cap screw with a head that takes an Allen wrench.

This works better than a standard slotted screw, since the small cap screw head fits the narrow center of the clamp better.

As for the swivel, you're out of luck, so what I'd recommend is to contact Choate, tell them the problem, and have them send you a new screw.

What about the swivel attachment for the sling?
unckle mikes sells a kit that has a swivel on one end and a machine screw on the other...they come in a packet of a bunch of odds and ends, rather expensive if you dont want the other stuff.try getting choate to replace it first then go with something else.

another idea is getting one and having it tapped run a machine screw through that tapped swivel.
