Hi Y'all,

Do you always carry the same weapon? Or do you switch?

If I'm around our place, out here in the country, woods-walkin'
or just run down to our small town, for groceries or gas, or supper,
I carry a little Ruger SP 101, .357mag. 2in. Stainless. With a
speed-loader or two. And, I feel completely safe & secure doing it.

On the odd occasion when we have to go to either of the
closest cities, out for dinner, shopping, or even visiting
Family, I carry a 1991 Colt Commander, .45acp., along with
2 spare 7 rounders of Silvertips.
This is because it makes me feel more comfortable.
I'm about equally competent with either choice of handguns.
I always belt carry, either in a Dillon "Master" open top holster.

Do you carry a different choice of CCW's for the occasion?
Or, are you always content with the same Choice?
Thanks,
'Til Later,
Old John

I switch
I like to carry a 3" S&W 13 with 158gr LSWC, but most of the time I just slip my 9/642 in my pocket and go.

Once in a great while I load up my 1911 and go with that and 2 8-round mags of LRN.

actually, i'm going crazy with this problem. its pretty much dependent on my dress. if im going to work or doing something casual, i'll wear a fobus ankle holster for my Glock26.. if im wearing a good size sweather or shirt (casually), i'll put a 4inch kimber 1911 compact in my IWB holster. in the future for summer wear, im considering using thunderwear for a kel-tec or probably just sticking it in my short prockets (since they're so skinny),.. but i PREFER the glock much much more than a kel-tec.
im really torn

I switch

Most of the time I carry a Kimber Pro-carry. On those days that I just don't want to carry, I stick a Taurus 605 in my coat pocket.

My CCW is always the same

If I'm going out in the woods hunting and want a .22 pistol for finishing shots on squirrels or rabbits, I'll take that, but as for CCW, always the same pistol.

Yep, I'm ac/dc, er, I switch...:scrutiny: I like carrying my .38, but my fave carry gun is the little Kel Tec. In winter, sometimes, I just get a jones to carry the .45 or the big 9. I always pocket carry my .380 to work 'cause IWB just ain't convenient to work doing.

At least all my stuff is DA. Just draw and pull the DA trigger.

Same CCW All The Time

I love my full size Kimber 1911 CDP, but I always carry either a Glock 22 or the 23, depending on what I have to wear, and a Ruger 2" SP-101 in a belly band and two Bianchi Speed Strips, for BUG purposes. They are all "point and shoot" hardware, and the KISS principle works the best for my old brain !

No, I carry three of my 10 handguns.

Hot/warm weather, no cover garment - SIG P232SL in High Noon IWB tuckable holster

Cool weather, sweatshirt or open carry. SIG P239 in High Noon IWB Tailgunner

Cold weather, sweatshirt or full jacket, SIG P229RDAK in Milt Sparks OWB holster

I'll tell you why denfoote; When that bowel loosing moment comes when you realize your pistol is the only thing that stands between you and certain death, it is not the time to try to remember what pistol you are carrying (1911, safety goes down, 9mm with a slide mounted safety that goes up, no safety, revolver?) and you reach for your right hip looking for the gun that's on your ankle or the middle of your back. If you are serious about using a pistol for self defense, use 1 gun, 1 carry, 24/7/365.

I used to change, a bit, but now prefer only one platform - SIG 226. The manual of arms for that however would allow me to carry instead the 228 or 220 - and not suffer any operational confusion.

I remind folks of the old saying - ''Beware the man with but one gun'' - meaning, be VERY familiar with your carry weapon - it must run on full auto pilot if ever needed - which includes malfunction clearances etc.

Circumstances may dictate a change but IMO - if you don't have to change - don't just ''ring the changes'' - stick to one and get damn good with it!

The social belt holstered CCW is the same 98% of the time. After 25 years or so I am a creature of habit. The pocket gun is always with me and never changes.

The exception arises when I go out into the sagebrush to plink. Then it is just a question of which good centerfire pistol I chose to wear.

Not to mention the rifle in the truck.

Monday thru friday i carry a 3"' 65-3 for
the simple reason that it fits in the small
locker at work.

Weekends i carry a service model XD-9
and a beretta 21-A..I"ll sometimes
switch out the XD for a 4" 686.

I'll also carry my 3" 625-7 chambered in
45 colt if i'am in the mood but it's my
primary apt gun.

My wife likes her 2 3/4" police service six
on her side of the bed. That one i don't
carry because the cylinder opens in a
different manner that the S&W's.

I don't see a problem with carrying
different firearms as long as they
operate in a similar manner.

I agree, when in a state of danger I wanna just be able to reach my right side holster and draw my weapon as soon as possible...I usually carry a ruger p95 9mm with a 15 round clip of gold dots......its never misfired or jamed up on me..plus I feel very comfortable firing it...

I do believe in carrying a similar, but not necessarily the same gun as one dresses differently and traveles to different places with different threats. All my semi's have a safety that operates the same direction or no safety at all. I prefer the 1911 style safety and will only buy a semi with a safety that operates in htat direction, down to fire. Therefore most guns with a slide mounted safety, like the Beretta 92F are out for carry.

When I hike in the mountains I carry a .357 revolver, so no manual safety at all. I am confident in my ability to use both semis and the revos even in a stressful situation.

I won't own a handgun I can't carry.

I sold all of the guns in my collection that didn't fit the concealed carry purpose. I have no need or really want for a 6" .44 mag. I have a 4" 629 in the same caliber that I can carry concealed. Anything bigger than an N-frame Smith with a four inch barrel is just silly for me to try to conceal, so it isn't in my posession anymore.
I carry 4" 1911, 4" hipower, 5" 1911, 5" hipower, 3" Gp100, 4" gp100, 4" 686+, 4" 629, Makarov, P-64, CZ-75, Witness 10mm, etc. I pick the gun that I'm dressed for at the moment, not the other way around. If I'm in shorts and a t-????s, it's usually a Makarov, or stainless 3" revolver, simply because I'm sweaty. In winter, people wear big clothes, including Bad Guys, so the 15 round 10mm fits the bill for CCW. Maybe the .44, but only if I'm wearing a jacket or sweater. I get dressed, open the safe, and grab the gun that will work for the outfit I'm in at the time. All my guns are either DA or SA with a safety that moves in the "correct" direction (ala 1911) so the sweep of the safety is really a natural feeling for me. If there's not one there, I just shoot. Easy, right?
The hard part is picking which holster is right for which gun. I have seven Milt Sparks Watch Six holsters, three for revolvers, and four for autos. Hard to tell which one to grap, as they are all the same color. I need to organize this stuff.

I usually rotate these guns on a fairly regular basis:

1) Bersa 380
2) Glock G26
3) Colt Officers ACP
4) Colt Mustang Pocketlite
5) AMT Backup 45ACP

Other guns that I will be mixing into the rotation:

1) Colt Detective Special
2) Colt Commander XSE

I used to switch through all the time, but came to the conclusion that for consistency in a high stress situation (the whole reason we carry), I should stick to one type. While on duty I use a Glock 22, and when off, an H&K USP compact .45. I probably should just always use a Glock, like a 22 on duty and a 23 off duty...

My 90% of the time gun is my S&W 442. I do carry a NAA Guardian .32 for those times where the 442 simply won't work.

I strongly believe in carrying the weapon you are most familiar with and the simplest to operate. I have several guns I could choose from but this is what works best for me, all the rest are for the range.

On duty gun and all off duty guns are all DAO (or DA revolver). As much as I like 1911s, my employer dictates DAO, so for muscle memory purposes all of my carry guns are DAOs. :)
