alright i hit the shop today and i re narrowed my 9mm search to 3 guns.

Beretta 92FS Black 500/They also have a 2 tone for i think 540 or 550 which is CLEAN
Taurus PT92 matte stainless 400
Sig 2009 certified used very mint 400

all plus tax

I like them all not sure which one to pick, I really love those berettas but they are a little more than what i was planning to spend. I had my eye on the taurus since day 1 but i worry about resale value with the taurus bed rep curse. The Sig I want mainly because it seems like a pretty good deal. What do you guys think?

Resale is important, up the road, maybe.

...

I think you narrowed it down to 2.. Beretta or Sig

Either gun will make you a VERY happy first time buyer, VERY happy.. ;)

Won't be the last gun either, get used to it, So, maybe the Sig first, as the 92's will be around for awhile, new and used.

Luck,

LS

Dont get me wrong I'm a big fan or the Taurus as well but after holding the beretta I was like wow. The Black Beretta was easily 5 times more sexy than the stainless Taurus The sig i just want because it is a sig, i'm not a big fan of polymer guns but this is probably the nicest looking one Ive seen IMO and the price is a steal. Hopefully its still there the next time i hit the store.

I might spend the extra coin and get the 2 tone 92FS man that was a sweet piece indeed. I'd have to find some aftermarket grips for that baby just to make it even more cool

any experiences with these guns? I made a thread about the taurus and most say its as good and maybe even more acurate than the beretta, resale isnt that big of a deal since if its a quality piece i probably wont sell it anyways the finish doesnt look as nice as the real deal though its like a dull grey still nice though they just got it in and it was all oily which i thought was a little strange. The Beretta looks really nice but is kind of pricey still a good price though, they have them for less than i see at buds gun shop. The Sig is very clean i wouldnt be able to tell it was used by looking at it, havnt heard alot about the 2009 though what do they usually go for? I'm not a big fan of the look of polymer guns but i like this one i like that its da/sa

I'm leaning towards the beretta either in black or 2 tone but could lean any which way. I'm not a fan of the slide mounted safety but i'm sure i'll get used to it, I'm new to guns anyways especially semis. My only gun i have is a revolver right now and want to dive into semis

Beretta and Taurus is the SAME gun for all purposes! You can literally swap most parts on them! I have the Beretta 96 which is the .40 cal version of the 92 and it is a great gun! I am not a sig fan so i cant give you one up on the sig. I would go Beretta as it is the "real thing" as Taurus is a clone!

yeah the guns pretty much are exactly alike from the exterior, the Beretta just looks nicer like the finish is better and little details about it make it a classier looking gun. I dont think i could go wrong with either of them but i'll probably spend the extra cash and get the beretta though just like last month when i was deciding between the Tracker and the GP-100, i went with the GP with no regrets.

The Taurus was originally built on Beretta machines. It is largely a Beretta 92 with some changes.

The Beretta will have the name. That means better resale value if you sell it. It might be a little smoother. Accuracy will be about the same. It has the slide mounted decocker (I personally hate those).

The Taurus is a well made gun. Very few out there have had problems (it may be more reliable than the Beretta in fact- the known problem a few years back with the slide, Taurus fixed theirs before Beretta fixed their design). Resale isn't as good, but then you pay less up front. It has a frame mounted safety/decocker and can be used as a DA (you can decock it, you can decock it and then put it on safe) or you can carry it "cocked and locked" with the hammer cocked as a SA and the safety engaged. I much prefer the Taurus safety system, thus if I was to buy this design (maybe, but maybe not) it would be the Taurus.

The SIG is also known as the SIGPro. They are good guns. I've been very happy with my metal framed 226 and 229. For some reason this particular SIG doesn't do it for me, but it is a good/great gun.

In your group of guns you are considering I'd go with either the SIG or the Taurus. I'd probably go with the Taurus since the polymer SIGs just don't do it for me like the aluminium ones do.

Beretta feels nice, but there products are not the quality they used to be. 7 out of 9 Beretta 92's at a one-week class I recently attended broke. Not failed to function, broke. They had to be repaired by the on-site gunsmith.

At a recent test Beretta brought out several pistols and shotguns. Officers and professional shooters broke every gun in two days.

Go with the Sig, especially at that price.

See thats the thing that gets me, i actually hear more negititive stuff about the beretta than the taurus. The beretta has the name and a more refined sexy look though but i dont want to get a gun that is known to fall apart during training sessions. I heard beretta isnt even making them anymore for whatever reason

I carried a Beretta 92 for 2 years on security watches when i was in the navy though and was the first handgun i ever shot. The sig i'm kinda weary about because i havnt heard alot about that particular model and it almost seems like its too good to be true for a high end gun to go for that price

I'd probably go with the Beretta. They are amazing pistols, shoot well, reliable, and sexy...

:FLAME SUIT ON: Personally, I think Sigs are over-rated and over-priced...

For what it's worth, I've owned a Taurus 92 in the past and had zero problems with it. That said, the Taurus company's Customer Service reputation on various forums is AWFUL (to the extent you can have faith in forum posts). Of course, if you never need Customer Service, that's moot.

I presently own a Beretta 92FS Police, and it has been perfect since the first round. It is a pleasure to shoot. As already pointed out, there are slight differences between Beretta 92 and Taurus 92 designs; specifically, the Beretta is a DA/SA design with a decocker, whereas the Taurus 92 allows Condition One carry (cocked & locked) in addition to DA/SA. Personally, I grow less fond of cocked & locked as I get older, but maybe that's a function of becoming an old fart. Or maybe it's a function of being wiser as a result of more years of competition. I don't know.

I am a BIG fan of SIGs. However, all seven of mine are in the P2xx series, which means none have a polymer frame. Therefore, I can't comment on the model 2009.

I also live in the Phoenix area, and I picked up my Beretta 92FS Police NIB from a dealer at a gun show last year for $539. That may seem high, but the Police model comes standard with three magazines (instead of two) and with factory-installed Tritium sights. Those extras, if purchased separately, would add over $100 to the price. My sense is that all the prices you've been quoted seem high for this area, but I'm no expert.

thats a good price i'll be spending the same without the mag and the sights after taxes if i get the black one the 2 tone will probably be close to 600 beans

I would recommend either of the Berettas...I'm not a Taurus fan at all & the Sigpros just don't do anything for me ;)

One question whats the difference betewwn a regular 92 and an INOX? The more I think about this the more i'm leaning towards the berettas Not that i don't like the taurus but i might as well spend the extra 100 bucks and get the real deal. how are betettas warranty and customer service track records?

You keep saying the Beretta is "the real deal" The Taurus is in no way a substandard knock off of the Beretta. Do a little more research on the PT92 and you will see that after winning the bid to produce the beretta 92 in Brazil many years ago, Taurus bought all the beretta machines and made quite a bit of changes to the Beretta design and started making the PT92, It is thought by many to be much better then the Beretta, So if you ask me I would say the Taurus PT92 is "the real deal" and the Beretta is the substandard version ;)

not that it matters but I personally own a PT92 with tons of flawless rounds through it and I have shot a Beretta 92 that broke about 50 rounds in to my range trip. Im no gunsmith so Im not sure exactly what happend but It would no longer extract the rounds.

^I know what you mean, I was looking at the PT92 before i thought of getting the beretta. I've heard on many occasions that the Taurus is a better gun and with the beretta i'm basically paying for the name, the 92fs does look a tad bit sexier than the taurus IMO but i still like them both. I dont want the beretta if it is going to crap out on me especially for an extra 100 bucks. At least if something goes wrong with the taurus its backed by a solid warrenty IDK about beretta. BTW these are made in the USA models if that means anything IDK if they are better or worse than the italian made ones

well i went with the Beretta 92, I think i made the right choice. It sure is sweet cant wait till they let me pick it up
